As a regular visitor to Tenerife and in particular Los Gigantes we knew more or less what to expect. The hotel has been part refurbished and modernised (communal areas, swimming pool, outside) but there are still old fittings to be found such as the lifts and bathrooms and so on.
It is in a great position - on the main street where there a few bars, shops etc and with superb views whichever side your room is on - we liked the east facing room where we could see the village plus the harbour, cliffs and sea when on the balcony. Los Gigantes is hilly - with a steep short walk back up from the harbour.
It is very much a UK hotel - we travelled independently and found one tour operator seems to dominate - Thomsons, being a so called 'couples' hotel. This meant the average age was about 60/70 - (no children).
There is some rubbishy activity during the day but very low key and night-time shows - surprisingly good on a couple of evenings.
Food is typical buffet style and was better than we expected - we thought we would probably 'eat out' at least once in the evening but never did - perhaps made up a bit with lunchtime snacks, tapas -Los G has a good selection of restaurants
Its an easy drive from Tenerife South airport and car hire at airport is simple -driving becomes a lot more challenging if you go to Masca or say the north coast with windy steep roads
