Great location and wonderful staff!

Posted 19-Jul-2015
Pros: Location and the roof top.
Location: Centrally located on Venice Beach, walking, bike riding, surfing and roller-blading are easily assessable. A short bike ride to Santa Monica Pier.
The hotel staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and welcoming. The new roof top offered spectacular views of the beach, boardwalk, and an amazing sunset! The location allowed easy walks or bike riding to Muscle Beach and Santa Monica Pier.

Nice hotel on the beach

Posted 15-Jul-2015
Great beachside view. Room was cool. Seems like a great place for couples. The rooftop deck was awesome, great Matt and Jude were fantastic. We had our kids with us so the immediate surrounding area was somewhat unsavory.

Excellent feedback here and we're so glad you enjoyed your stay. Great point about the neighborhood... while wouldn't exactly describe Venice Beach as being "family-friendly" ourselves, we do have many families that stay and enjoy the kooky atmosphere of the Boardwalk.

No parking accommodations. Overnight parking is a hassle, expensive and/or hard to get to. Rooms are nice, clean, right on the strand.

I wish you had seen that our Expedia profile states that our historic hotel does not have onsite parking available before you arrived... the information is there to help! Beyond that, thank you for staying with us!

Ready close to the beach

Nice room. Communal areas a bit tatty but they were under renovation at the time of the visit.

Quaint hotel right on the beach. Location confronting!

Hi there! Thank you for staying with us and sharing your thoughts. We are directly on the Venice Beach Boardwalk, which can be an overwhelming experience for those folks that are unfamiliar with the atmosphere.

Top location, historic hotel

Posted 25-May-2015
Pros: location, kitchen, wardrobe size
Cons: bathroom
Location: Set aside time to walk through more than just Venice beach - check out the Canal Walks, Abbott Kinney Blvd and the Main Street nearer Santa Monica
Upgrade works during the visit so not exactly pristine condition (but not a pain either). Really good point for us was the kitchenette - very useful. Really big wardrobe! - very rare and helpful. Tiny bathroom, small shower cubicle - a downside (this could be fixed by merging with kitchen but then you'd loose the kitchen).

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and mentioning our room have mini-kitchens! And great point about our bathrooms; they're small! But then again, our hotel is now 103 years old! They didn't build them big back in turn-of-the-century Venice!

Family fun!!

Good stuff first-Stayed for 3 nights, room was perfect for our needs, had fridge, microwave, stove, dishes so you can save money on food expenses by bring stuff to make! Really cool old elevator!! It is small and had to make a few trip to get everything to room but still fun. Room was cozy, had a queen bed that was nice and firm, had a rollaway bed for the kids to sleep on and a little table and chairs. We were in the back of the hotel but still had a nice view of the ocean from our windows. Staff was friendly and had lots of helpful tips. We brought bicycles and they had a locked area to store them that was nice. You are steps away from beach!! Drawbacks- there is construction going on next door and on the roof so if your planning on sleeping in it may be tough. There are homeless people everywhere, none of them bothered us but made area dirty! Absolutely no parking close to hotel unless you want to pay over $30 a day or you get extremely lucky and find a free parking spot on the side streets by hotel. We parked 3-4 blocks away as it was the closest free parking we could find.

Never again!!

Posted 8-Apr-2015 on Hotels
I would never stay at this hotel again. There is no on-site parking, I had to pay $60 for a two nite stay to a local parking lot. The room was ok but the smell was overwhelming and we had to keep the windows open all day just to tolerate the dank smell. Be sure that you are an early morning person because hammers start swinging at 7am due to extensive construction next door.

I'm very sorry you were so disappointed by your stay here, Zenda. We wish the apartments next door weren't being renovated but that's out of our control; we don't know their schedule we only know that it will be temporary. As for your parking experience, our Hotels.com profile clearly states that our hotel does not offer on-site parking. $30 per night parking in Venice Beach is fair, especially during spring break. I wish the parking situation was better but that's just how our historic hotel and this pedestrian-friendly tourist town were designed!
