Close to beach.

Posted 27-Oct-2014
Pros: Close to the walkway.
Cons: The price can be lowered.
Location: The area is overrated. Even the locals warn you not to walk the Venice beach area late at night. Late being after dark.
It would be nice if we were told beforehand that they are doing maintenance on the building. The hotel has limited facilities and I do not understand why it rated so high. You can get a hotel with a pool and other facilities for the same price in the area. We travelled for 30 days al over the US and this was our last stop and the only place I had a negative review for.

First timer LA

Posted 17-Oct-2014
Pros: Just what we wanted, clean and on top of the beach and Boardwalk. Matt, who checked us in and out was great.
Went looking for the Venice Beach experience and got it all. The area is alive with music, people and lots to see, eat and buy. A great one time experience.

Great location, great staff, great all around.

Posted 25-Aug-2014
Pros: Everything. It's history with new amenities is next to none.
Cons: Don't have anything to add.
Location: Beach, food and shopping all within walking distance.
The staff was very helpful regarding parking and transportation. Could not beat the location if you want the Venice Beach experience. Will definitely visit again.

From the first minute we arrived at this hotel we were treated very very well and the main man at reception really went the extra mile with us to make our stay here a great one.

Pleasant stay

Posted 4-Aug-2014
My family of 4 including 2 teens recently stayed at Venice Beach Suites and hotel for 3 nights. It was an enjoyable stay. The accommodations are not the most modern or luxurious but they were clean, the staff was friendly and helpful and the bed was firm. Note that if you are arriving on a weekend especially later in the day it can be a challenge to find street parking. We were able to do so after our mid-afternoon arrival but it was a decent hike from the hotel. Fortunately we are in good shape.

Thank you for being honest about the culture shock you encountered in our surrounding community. I do think with the right amount of research, however, the shock could have been reduced. Venice Beach is known for being a haven for homeless people, what with our mild year-round climate and progressive politics. It's a live-and-let-live eclectic & Bohemian lifestyle here. And, unlike other states, smoking marijuana (even in public) is legal in California. Also, our historic hotel does not have A/C, nor do we list that as an amenity on our Expedia profile. We hope you turned on your ceiling fan and opened the screened windows to let the ocean breeze cool down your room!

More of a hostel than a hotel

Posted 24-Jul-2014 on Hotels.com
I didn't think Venice Beach Suites was worth the $200-odd we paid per night. It was beachfront but the area is grubby, with homeless people sleeping all around the hotel and on the grassy verge right outside. I didn't feel safe at night walking 1 minute from the parking lot to the hotel. Upon entering, the hotel smelt like cigarette smoke most evenings, the floor in our room was dirty and gritty and the soles of my feet went black. Some of the pillowcases went marked with a grey moldy looking stains. We changed rooms and experienced the same dirty floor and pillowcases with the second room. On the plus side, the staff were helpful and the on-site DIY laundry facility ($5) was useful.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and I'm very sorry for the shortcomings you experienced staying with us. While some of the issues you mentioned are out of our direct control (like transients hanging out along the Boardwalk) I have spoken with our housekeeping staff about both our need to thoroughly inspect (and reject) stained or torn linens we receive from our linen service and to take better care to remove the sand from our hardwood floors.

good location, awful owner

Posted 24-Jul-2014 on Hotels.com
we had just a one night stay arranged at the Venice Beach Suites, and due to flights that were massively delayed, we were not going to arrive until 9pm that evening. we called the owner to see if there was any flexibility on the cancellation policy since the room rates are NOT cheap and we would only be there for 8 hours, and he curtly said "not a chance." Fair enough given that there's a policy.. but not exactly friendly. When we arrived that evening, he was extremely rude, consistently making catty remarks like "good try on canceling.." and "you really tried to keep me here as late as possible, huh?"... I've never had such awful customer service. Especially as I tried to win him over by asking about his day, saying I understood his decision on the policy, etc... He was just a curmudgeon the whole way through. Same tone at checkout... The room itself is very old with terrible/nonexistent decor (faded floral comforter that hasn't been washed in years over a cheap bed with vary tangible and audible springs), a ton of dust etc. The only plus is the location. That said, I would never stay here again... even if the customer service hadn't been so terrible, the price is wayyyy to high for the level of service/amenities/cleanliness.

While you were not dealing with the owner of our hotel (he does not man the front desk) if the tone and dialogue you received from one of our clerks was exactly as you described then you deserve an apology and I am sorry. I wish that your flight wasn't delayed!
