“Great place to stay!”
Great location to get around in. Extremely helpful staff, great room.
“This hotel is a great find”
Looked for a cheap place near Burbank Airport and found this gem. The building is old, but all the interior has been remodeled recently (I think in 2008). Plenty of history at this hotel, as the hallways have pictures of movie stars who have stayed here. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Originally we were given a room on the 1st floor, near the elevators. And the first floor balconies are not very private. So, I asked for a non-first floor room away from the elevators and the front desk clerk was very accommodating. Got a room on the 2nd floor, at the end of the hallway. The room is very spacious. The layout is typical hotel room layout, but wider than average. And, the balcony gives you extra room to hang out, drink coffee, etc. The bed is very comfortable and the down pillows and down comforter are a nice touch. Room has a frig, but no microwave (which would be a nice addition). TV is kinda small (maybe 25in?) and dated (CRT, not flat screen) but we do not vacation to watch TV. Room is nice and quiet. The Olympic sized pool and garden are both very nice. Our kids loved the pool, and we loved the hot tub. There is a small garden area at the far end of the pool, with two small water fall type fountains. Very relaxing and peaceful. The onsite restaurant is very convenient, and the waitresses are also very friendly and helpful. We had breakfast here every morning. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to staying here again.

The only drawback was that they had limited parking available for the guests because the motion picture studios were making a film on there property.
“Great service, comfortable and clean”
My 8-y/o daughter and I stayed here for three nights and really enjoyed ourselves. The pool was large, clean and heated, and the hot tub was relaxing after a long day of lines at Universal Studios. The best thing was the staff. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We loved the free shuttle to Universal Studios. Comfortable beds. The room and sheets were clean. The pillows were huge (I like flat pillows) but no big deal. The price was right and there are some decent restaurants nearby (definitely get a chili dog from Carney's down the street). Stay here, but don't get the pizza from room service - not so good. We'll be back and thanks Justino for the great service!
“On my A list”
This is a very impressive hotel that is not "right in the action" but not too far. The rooms are very clean: my reason for describing the place as impressive. The pool, with a pool-side bar makes the place enjoyable. The bar in the lobby was never open, however.
“Sportsmen's Lodge offers space and comfort”
Not far from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood, the Sportsmen's Lodge on Ventura offers a spacious, quiet and comfortable place to stay. We had a room overlooking the pool--which is huge and heated--and palm trees. The housekeeping staff was excellent. The room was clean and the beds very comfy. The only drawback was there is no free Internet. Hope they change that since most hotels offer this feature. We learned the hotel has a bit of history. Robert F. Kennedy stayed there on the fifth floor the night before he was killed in Los Angeles. We also heard several movies were shot there and celebrities, mostly older ones, have stopped by. A few black and white photos line a lobby hallway showing its famous visitors. It's an older hotel, but it's kept up. We loved the location and just drove a few miles to Hollywood where we visited our daughter. We recommend the hotel and give it five stars out of five.
“What an LA Hotel Should BE...”
We really enjoyed the funky (in the best sense) historic atmosphere with 70's furniture in the lobby, star and sportsmen photos. Riverstones make the front of the property special and the pool surrounded by palm treees was great. Hotel honored request for quiet with top floor room on back with view of the valley, very lovely. Beds were great and room comfortable, decor welcoming and restful. We really had a great time!
“Up to date hotel with glamour of old movies”
We enjoyed our four-day stay at Sportsmen's Lodge. The hotel is set on lovely grounds with lush plantings. The pool looks like it's from a fine vintage movie. It looked great but we thought the weather was a little chilly so we didn't go in. (Other guests were using that heated pool.) It was nice to sit near it and enjoy the California weather. The hotel staff was very helpful and our updated room was spacious and comfortable. Because it is an older hotel, the rooms are larger than most newer places. We got free wireless internet. The neighborhood is very walkable and interesting. We had breakfast in the coffee shop where the staff was cheerful and the food was fine. We really enjoy the old movie connections. The photos of movie stars who stayed at the Sportsmen's add to the flavor. We will definitely return. We really want to swim in that pool!
“Great Hotel, Great Location, Great Price”
We traveled to the L.A. area for a family vacation recently. The Sportsmen's Lodge fit our needs perfectly. The location was great as was the price. We would definitely stay there again.
