“Recommend to all”
I stayed over from Sat. to Sunday and was very impressed with the overall service and the room. I overlooked the Marina which was nice. I recommend room 334 because the balcony is very private. The bathroom was really nice except for those cold floors in the morning. I enjoyed my stay and would come back again. The lobby is nice & the ocean view is very appealing. The swimming pool was extremely small like a bathtub! Enjoy your stay
“good choice!”
Beautifully decorated and comfortable room. Loved the breakfast room and the view from there with sea lions swimming in the ocean while you have a good continental breakfast. Staff was very polite, nice and gave very useful information (especially the guy at the front desk). We had a nice stay! Thank you!
“Excellent hotel”
Nice, clean room with very nice staff. Good neighborhood to wander around and easy access to beaches up and down the coast.
“Recommended first night”
The hotel was very easy to reach by car from LAX; no hassles at all (we didn't have a map). The hotel is on the marina and was welcome sight after flying in for 9pm. The only disappointment was that room service shut at 11 so by the time we had got through customs etc, we missed that and there was nothing local. I would therefore suggest grabbing something en route if you don't think you'll get there. The room was very comfortable and well decorated, although not huge. Our room looked out onto the front of the hotel and then across to the marina and had a little balcony. There was a hamper in the room which was useful of chocolates, snacks etc so we didn't starve. There is a restaurant opposite for breakfast but we walked a little further round the marina to an all american diner which was good fun. There was also a big play area with water slides, a big lake, beach, picnic tables etc so it would be worth checking if that was open if you had children.
“fantastic place!!!!”
i have just spent a long weekend here and i loved the place. im a woman travelling on my own and this was perfect, safe, friendly, everything i asked for. the hotel lobby / bar is just amazing. the staff very helpfull and attentive. you can sit and enjoy a drink and watch the boats sail by. the restaurant - baleen - has great food, an amazing view and good atmosphere. the hotel is right on the marina with other restaurants very close by -a slow 10 minute walk - on the pier. i couldnt really find fault with this place, except that the pool is kind of small, more of an afterthought really. but the beach is a 20min leisurely stroll away if you prefer it. i cant wait to go back and stay here again. though i do believe having a room on the "marina" side is actually better as the sea lions on the "ocean" side do get very loud at night.
“I will return”
The location is unique if you love the water. The rooms are well appointed and well kept. Walking along the ocean and watching the boats sail by the balcony were a definite plus for us. There are alot of places to eat within walking distance.I would recommend the hotel and plan to retrn again.
“Experience”
Hotel looks like it was recently remodeled and is in great condition. Bed was firm and comfortable. Reading previous reviews, I was very concerned about the responsiveness of the staff, but we had no difficulties (although we didn't use room service). We definitely would return to this hotel.
“portifono”
Clean, convenient, confortable with attentive, friendly staff. Love the bellowing of the seals; some may not. The view is awesome - just sit on the patio and watch the pelicans dive for fish. Park your car and walk to restaurants or to just enjoy the scenery along the pier.
“Best little know secret”
This hotel is great! Free internet, free bicylces, but walking distance to everything. One thing...the rooms have no microwaves. Not so great for families with children under 12...more of an adult hotel.
“Portofino is Perfect”
We originally stayed at the Portofino in 1979 for our wedding night! We no longer live in the area, but have family and friends close by. Of course, the complete renovation several years ago has made the Inn much nicer than we remember it from thirty plus years ago. We have stayed four times over the past one year and always have a good experience. The rooms are comfortable, quiet and the location is perfect for our needs. Parking is sometimes a bit of a challenge with the near-by restaurants being very busy, but we then defer to the valet. Baleen is excellent for breakfast. We love the access to the beach and the bike path.
