“Good hotel except for the nightclub”

I enjoyed this hotel in general. It had a great location for where I needed to be during my visit. The view from the rooftop restaurant was outstanding. My only nitpick is that I didn't enjoy the bar in the evening. The restaurant turns into a noisy, crowded nightclub. The crowd was unappealing. I'm a person who enjoys a nice cocktail or two in the evening and having one at my hotel avoids driving. But, the bar was so crowded and noisy that I had to wait for a seat and deal with the "meat market" atmosphere. Instead of the loud music and singles scene, I would appreciate something a little bit more laid back.

“The Huntley Stunk!”

This hotel could be much more. However, there are some aspects of this hotel that are COMPLETELY offputting. First, they use some sort of "aromatherapy" in the lobby. The problem: it is too much! I took two breaths, and started wheezing. I used my inhaler for the rest of our stay. We started entering the lobby thru the garage because that door was closest to the elevators. Second, there is no place to sit in the lobby. Yes, there are benches, and burl wood stools. But, the decor is not welcoming, the ambient lighting nonexistant, and who wants to read a book or the newspaper or chat with someone in an uncomfortable setting. There was a patio, however, all of the smokers hung out there...... The location of the hotel was great, and the amenities in the room were good, but the atmosphere was so lacking that we couldn't wait for our stay to be over...we will not be back.

“Signature Suite”

Very nice staff, clean, modern hotel. Ocean view was advertised, but we only got partial coastline (i.e. our windows faced the city). That was the only complaint, but not enough to bump it down a star. Pricy but worth it.

“Nice Location but Overpriced and Poor Service”

Front desk kept me on hold for 14 minutes. Had a similar experience trying to retrieve my car from the valet, as did my wife. At these prices, the service should be much better and far less arrogant.

“A few glitches, but a great stay...”

Stayed at the Huntley twice in a ten day period. The first room was smaller, but with great views. The second room was large, on the top floor. Ordered room service for breakfast and dinner; dinner was excellent, but breakfast was just okay, a slight disappointment. The location is great: minutes to the Promenade and a host of great restaurants and shopping, but the hotel itself is on a residential street. Quiet except for the crowds coming in and out of the hotel's restaurant / bar on the top floor, which kept the hotel lively but not too loud. The only detraction is the hotel's overhaul; it was once a three star place known for cheap margaritas, and though the new style is attractive, it feels incomplete. Some details from the earlier hotel remain: narrow tub/showers, and AC that can be a bit loud if you're a light sleeper. I would - and will - stay there again. I think it's a great hotel with very helpful management, but if you're extra wide or tall, it might not be the perfect fit.

Area recommendations

The Promenade, and the new mall at Santa Monica Place, are fantastic. Try the restaurants at Santa Monica Place for great choices.
