“BALCONY OVER VENICE BEACH”

We stayed at the Hotel Erwin in Venice beach. This is a convenient location. The service was great. We upgrade to the renovated 6th floor. We had a balcony overlooking the beach, the skateboard park, a courtyard leading to the boardwalk. We spent hours on the balcony watching sunsets, skateboards, bicycylist, runners, tourist. The only drawback to the 6th floor is noise from the restraurant above. There is a great bike path on the beach, which goes from Santa Monica to Hermosa beach. We spent as much time as possible outside getting exercise. The Erwin was accomodating and gracious.

“Great Location”

A charming "boutique" hotel in a very lively location. There is a sign at the front desk with advice for visitors, and the last suggestion was to not judge or rate the local environment, but to just enjoy. Excellent advice. When we first arrived we felt a little uncomfortable about the local "culture," but after a few days we felt right at home, and enjoyed its charm. The rooftop restaurant/bar is a must visit. You are one block from the very colorful and fun boardwalk and the beach. Venice has a lot to see and do. Don't miss the canals after which Venice was named. And be sure to walk along Abbot Kinney Blvd and enjoy its shops and restaurants. There's something for everyone here. The only "downer" was the expensive per day valet parking fee. You can park on the street for free or in a lot nearby for half the cost of hotel valet. The fee lots do not allow you to leave and return. The hotel valet has unlimited leaves and returns, so it might be worth it if you will be using your car a lot while you are there. Also, they charge for internet service, but if you join the Joie de Vivre club before booking it is complimentary. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. They seem to genuinely want to make sure you have a great stay. Overall, we loved the hotel and would definitely stay there again.

“great muscle beach location”

Very clean ~ and I'm a clean freak. Location is great if you're looking to be right on crazy Venice Beach. I stayed during an over-night layover at LAX (1/2 hour cab ride) and would stay again. Doorman always there to welcome me back. As a woman traveling alone, This made me feel safe. Decor was artsie. Nice but not extreamly comfortable.

“Fantastic Experience”

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Erwin. We were traveling with two young children (ages 8 months and 3 years), and would recommend the Hotel Erwin to other families. There is a fabulous park right on the beach within 200 feet of the hotel, and an abundance of interesting people to see and activities to do. We chose to upgrade to one of their suites with a king bed and a pullout queen sofa bed and had more than enough room for all of us. Everything was very clean, the atmosphere was trendy, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Even though the daily valet charges seemed steep at first, we appreciated that our car was kept in a very secure parkade, and that we could leave and return with it as many times as we wanted throughout the day. We plan to return to the Hotel Erwin on our next visit to Venice Beach.

“Nice place in Venice Beach”

Our family had two rooms for 3 days. We greatly enjoyed our stay. The staff was courteous and efficient. It is 100 yards from the best part of Venice Beach.

“The room and location was fabulous”

The room was fabulous: quiet, 6th floor balcony with a nice view of the ocean, 42 inch flat screen tv, walk-in shower, the king bed was sumptuous. Perfectly located in the center of the Venice Beach scene. Now the complaint. I had booked an ocean front room. I was put in a room on the side of the hotel with an ocean view. When I asked about this I was told they consider all of the rooms with a view of the ocean as ocean front. Well, that has not been my experience at EVERY other hotel I've stayed at. I could have moved to an ocean front room the next day but they said I would be happier in the room where I was because it had been renovated. After checking out the other room I agreed and stayed where I was. So if you stay here, make sure to ask for one of the renovated rooms.

“Great location in Venice Beach!”

The hotel was much better situated than I expected. Beach was right around the corner. Plenty of restaurants within steps from the hotel. Hotel restaurant was very good and the roof top bar was fantastic although we were not aware that we needed reservations. The only disappointing/misleading thing was the Free Internet advertised on Expedia at this hotel. It is one of the main reasons I book with a particular hotel. When we arrived, we were told Internet access was $10 a day and only free to Joie de Vivre members and then had no information on how to become a member. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

“Excellent Hotel and Exceptional Location!”

Highly recommend this excellent hotel in a prime beach front location! The hotel is just one short block off Venice beach boardwalk and with good weather it has an really cool rooftop bar/lounge. The location is also very convenient to LAX, just 10 minutes on surface streets on a Saturday morning and a short drive north to the Santa Monica and Malibu communities. It is right in the middle of a real SoCal beach community, so you do have some limited dining options and night life action, with the exception of the rooftop lounge that is! It is clearly the best place to stay in the area and a good value for the price. Try to get a room up high and on the north side for a beautiful view of the beach and sunset this time of year! Just Go!!!

“Excellent hotel on Muscle Beach”

Can't beat the hotel in terms of what's actually inside the hotel. Amazing service, clean rooms, great price. However, it's right on Venice Beach. Other than that, everything is superb.

“A little gem in Venice!”

Funky, lovely hotel in a great neighbourhood. The room was spacious, and the bed was amazingly comfortable. The only drawback was the rather small bathroom, but it was perfectly fine. Every member of staff I came across were amazingly friendly and helpful, without exception. Hash downstairs does nice breakfasts, excellent bar snacks, and the staff are brilliant. The rooftop bar is really nice. Beautiful view of the ocean. It gets really busy around sunset, so be early! Overall a really nice stay, and I'll definitely be back!
