“Very pleasant and convenient”
I did not quite know what to expect, given that the reviews of this hotel run from awful to terrific. For my part I was very pleased. The electricity took a little understanding, but somone came up from downstairs and showed me what went where and how switches worked and the like, and no problems form then on. The shower was a challeng for me every time I used it, as it felt about 18" square and required some contortions to get in and out. Plenty of hot water, though, and the bathroom was nice and clean (same comment applies to the room as well). Really comfortable linen sheets, not that horrible synthetic junk you sometimes get even in an expensive hotel. I found the hotel nice and quiet, even with the window open. Location was terrific! Five minutes walk from Paddington Station, which is at the other end of the express train from Heathrow. I have never had a more convenient trip from airport to hotel. I only went to one of the neighbourhood pubs (the Pride of Paddington?) and didn't care that much for it. I probably should have dropped in the Swan on Bayswater Road, which from the outside looked promising, but it did not fall in my path within my customary pub window (2pm to 8pm). Oxford Circus is a comfortable half hour walk, Trafalgar Square maybe an hour. Great city for walking, with lots to see, and the hotel is in a very good spot. Also quite close to the main museums, a nice walk through Hyde Park along the Serpentine.
“One night stay only”
Booked & paid in full on the internet & all details upon arrival were just as we'd asked for. Even better we had a free upgrade to a better room (suite). We were allowed an early check in all of which was no problem. Very happy. Restaurant is very limited. Bottle bar only & if it isn't on the menu you can't have it. A simple cheese sandwich was too much in an empty bar! However we could have had a toasted cheese sandwich - bizaar! Not a big problem - superb restaurants nearby. Check out early morning was straightforward with no hidden costs. We could have used the bag storage facility but chose Paddington Station (4 min walk). Overall very pleased - would use again.
“London Trip 2”
I liked this hotel and stayed in it twice - internet worked well and the rooms were clean, if tight. The location works really well for me, being less than a 5 minute walk to Paddington Station - with trains to the airport as well as places I've stayed on my last trip (Bath, Torquay, Exeter, etc). I never tried eating at the cafe downstairs - but I didn't need to - there are other places nearby. For what I need, this hotel and this location has worked out really well and I give it my highest recommendation. I also noted that the lobby area of this hotel sold me - I like it - it was modern, but not too pretentious - and this is a 4 star hotel - so, for I needed it for - The Shaftesbury Premier London Hyde Park is my home away from home in London. Will I stay somewhere else the next time I come to London - possibly, only because this hotel has become so convenient that I should shake it up a little. ON the hand, when you travel - it's nice to know the lay of the land - and I know what I'm going to get at teh Shaftesbury Premier London Hyde Park - so I'll probably end up staying there again.
“Good Budget hotel”
I stayed at this hotel for 5 days in October 2010. The location is very good as to get down to Oxford street was only about a 15 miuntes including walking to the "Tube" The walk to the local tube was about 5 minutes. The area is clean and safe. My room was very clean however very small in comparison to N. American standards. The shower in very small, I am of an average build and much bigger I would have difficulty in teh shower. Hotel staff was courteous and overall this hotel met or exceeded my expectations.
“Excellent hotel”
Clean, modern, wonderful staff, convenient location, reasonable price, non-smoking property, free hi-speed internet, new linens and towels - this place has it all. Arrived late after a long daytime flight from NYC. Had asked for a double bed, but all they had left were twins. With very little cajoling, they gave me an upgraded room with a larger bed. Thank you! Can't think of any down-side except maybe the breakfast, which was a little, meh! Not really worth 12 pounds and there are MANY reasonable places in the neighborhood to get breakfast. Oh and of course the rooms are on the small side. Welcome to London! Otherwise, I would stay here again every time.
“Very nice hotel”
Hotel and our room was very nice. A little bit small but definitely adequate. Location is quite well. You could arrive Paddington underground station by five minutes of walking. You could also use buses to go anywhere you want. Bathroom and water pressure was very well. If I go to London again, definitely I will stay at this hotel.
“Impressive service level for this price, but problems with wireless internet”
Very clean, very professional, excellent level of service, so I was pleasantly surprised. Only problem I had was with the wireless internet, but as I was placed in a basement room this could possibly have been the reason. And it was great to only ne 3 minutes from Paddington station which is a 15 minute train ride from Heathrow airport - brilliant!
“would use again”
We were upgraded to a club room on check in - wonderful room with upstairs sitting area and kitchette, the room was extremely comfortable and convenient for business or holiday use. Free internet connection in the rooms. Breakfast as expected at Hotel buffet, the choice was very good. The location is great for paddington station, about about 4/5 minute walk. Surrounding area was very nice and quiet.
“Will definitely go back”
Just a couple blocks from the Paddington station. Very easy to use the tube system in London. Many local restaurants...Indian, Pubs, Italian...little markets. Everything very close by. The room was very clean. It was great that the bed was big enough for the 2 of us, and there was a couch to just sit and relax on. The internet was free which was fantastic. They also had a converter we could use with just a small deposit. The bathroom was big. Bathtub and shower. The water took awhile to heat up though, and the water will get all over the floor because there are no shower curtains, just a semi-sliding door. The small refrigerator worked, and it was very convenient to be able to make our own tea or coffee. They even had biscuits to eat with our tea and coffee. I didn't need to worry about the blow dryer because there was one provided that worked fairly well. There was also plenty of room for our luggage and space to hang out clothes. They also provided a ironing board and iron so we were able to dress up fairly often to go out. Service was excellent, and I definitely will go back again.
“The next best thing to being at home.”
Very friendly and accommodating staff. Will continue to use this hotel on each visit to London. It is very convenient to Paddington Station; an easy walk
