“Curious mix of good and bad”
The Regency promotes itself as a 4-star hotel. In some respects it is, but in others it struggles for three stars. The new rooms were designed by someone who never travels: dark bathrooms; a closet that is absurdly small and short, suitable only to a man's overnight--summer--travel; a ventilation system that is shut off during the winter, so the only alternative to a sauna is to sleep with the window open, and all of the noise of the street. Upon asking that the ventilation system be turned back on, one is informed that in winter it's off. That isn't 4-star. It ought to be added that by 4-star hotel standards, the new rooms are ridiculously small, double rooms being little more than what used to be London single rooms, but dressed up with a queen bed. Service throughout is generally solid 4-star, the breakfast room is agreeable, and the location and maintenance of the hotel are very good. The issue is that for the same money, you can do much better if you know the South Kensington and Gloucester Road hotels.
“Not Impressed”
Was expecting more for this category of hotel. Large number of rooms clustered around very narrow hallways (very clostrophobic). Could hear doors open and close through the night. Lights would go on in the room and in the small entryway when you got up at night and these lights could not be disabled. Very annoying. Staff professional but not very friendly. Only one old computer for public use located downstairs in a small non air-conditioned room. Had to have someone come down and open the door to the"business center" each time you want to use the computer. Very inadequate for today's modern traveler. Breakfast was good.
“great time at the Regency”
Room was compact but very clean and modern. Staff helpful but restaruant overpriced and better choices in area. Great location easy access
“Great location, very fairly priced and clean hotel...”
Very clean....Most rooms have been updated..small, but very modern with clean lines...Great location in super quaint South Kensington...great posh neighborhood restaurants..close, via underground, to all local attractions.
“Lovely hotel in London”
Hotel was beautiful inside and out. The room was clean, quiet, elegantly furnished with exquisite bathroom. Staff was very helpful. Would definitely stay here again. Only downside was lack of free wireless internet.
“Small Room, but Nice”
First of all, I have to say that this room had the highest technology I have ever seen in any hotel room I have used. There was an alarm on the door that let us know (after a few seconds) that the door wasn't completely shut and locked. Another alarm went off if one of us stood outside and held the door partially open (as if someone else were trying to force his/her way inside). There were buttons to push for privacy, or to have the room cleaned by the housekeepers. When those buttons were pushed, little lights went on outside the door, saying, "Do Not Disturb" or "Please Clean Room". There were all kinds of buttons inside the room for controlling the lights. The one we liked best was the bedside light that turned on a soft, blue light. This blue light could be left burning all night, without interrupting sleep. It allowed us to find our way to and from the bathroom, without disturbing each other. The room was quite small, but it was nicely arranged, clean, and very attractive. The closet was a bit small for a long-term stay, but it worked well enough for our two nights in this hotel. The bathroom was large and nice. The hotel was fairly close to the museum and Royal Albert Hall sections of South Kensington, London, and about a ten-minute walk from Knightsbridge and Harrods. There were lots of good restaurants around, and the neighborhood felt like a safe one for walking. There was also a lovely restaurant in the basement of the hotel, which had excellent food.
“Minuscule room”
Minuscule room, recently renovated, sloppy breakfast, slow and unnattentive service. Not worth the cost
“web-site looks great hotel 3rd rate”
incredibly disappointed with hotel hallways narrow and confusing room claustrophobic changed to airier room with bathtub wi-fi inconsistent
“Better hotel right across the street”
The reason I would not recommend this hotel is that there is a far better (and even less expensive!) hotel right across the street, The Kensington Hotel, which even refrain from the greedy habit of some hotels to charge exorbitant fees for WI-FI.
“Excellent location”
Close to the South Kensinton Tube. This location allows travel on the Piccadilly Line and the Circle and District line as well. These 3 lines gets one to a lot of London's main areas and attractions. The Hotel is very nice. The bar would remain open till midnight, giving us another option after seeing a show in the west end. We arrived by 7:30 AM after traveling all day and our room was available. That was nice, so we could shower before heading out for the day. The room was kept clean and the staff very friendly.
