“clean and simple”
I found this hotel fine for the price. Like many European hotels in this price range the room was small, the shower was small. Continental breakfast is served btwn 8 and 9 am and if you're an early riser, like me, that is inconvenient. It is staffed by the family owners and they were friendly, attentive and helpful. There was an unplanned electrical outage my first night. No fault of the hotel. Mgmt went out and got flashlights for use by guests. They were also helpful with directions, tours, etc. Hotel has been renovated and my room was very clean. I enjoyed my stay and would stay again.
“Nice place to stay”
The rooms are small but clean and had everything that we needed. The staff are friendly, breakfast was good and the owner and his wife are very friendly and happy to give good advice on activities around London. We stayed for 5 days and found the location great as well!!!!!
“Great for budget stays”
The room was tiny, the walls very thin, detailed cleaning - for example of the light fittings - simply wasn't carried out. The bed cover was also dirty. But the basics were fine. I found the staff very friendly and the breakfast was appropriate for the price and much appreciated. The hotel's in a reasonably quiet and easy-to-get to location (as long as you can read a map or have a smartphone!) and is hassle-free.
“Convenience versus space and amenitites”
The hotel is certainly convenient for Victoria coach, train and underground stations and there are many eateries in the surounding area. If the hotel is to be used as a base for a day or two whilst exploring London or doing business it could be fine. There are two big issues that need to be considered. Firstly, the rooms are very small and the shower/bathroom very small, even in comparison to most European small hotels, and there is no air conditioning although a fan is provided. Storage space for luggage is very limited. Secondly, the hotel is becoming quite run-down with worn carpets and that sad look to walls etc. Re-wiring of the hotel had been started some years ago but has not been completed with the result that in the breakfast room for example there are loops of unconnected cabling and makeshift power boards. Probably OK for a flying visit if you are prepared to put up with some inconvenience, so the recommendation is qualified.
“Windows on connecting balcony do not lock.”
The Bad: Window to room 15 did not lock and the balcony connects to other rooms and other windows. We had nothing stolen, but it could have happened easily. The hotel stairs and elevator open at different levels and you will need both to get to your room, luggage with you. I question when the bed covers were laundered, The room was very small, and the bath was tiny and the towel exchange was by demand only. The Good: One block to the tour busses and other bus terminal that will get you to Dover etc. A younger person could easily walk the mile or so to Buckingham Palace. Victoria Station is even closer. It was relatively cheap compared. Location was almost worth the other inconveniences.
“Fig Newtons for breakfast”
Don't stay at this hotel if you have any luggage. It has an elevator, but it stops in between floors, so you still have to climb a flight of stairs with your luggage to get to your room. Also, don't get too excited about the included breakfast at this so-called Bed and Breakfast. They serve fig newtons and crackers, and the only hot breakfast item is toasted bread. Our electrical outlets didn't work for the first couple days, because the staff forgot to fix them after we mentioned it to them (even though all they had to do to fix it was to reset the breaker). They claim they have wireless in their rooms, but actually charge you some outrageous amount and all guests share one wireless card. The staff is anti-feminist, impolite and over-bearing. They talked to my boy-friend, but not to me: if I wanted anything, I had to ask him to ask them. When I told them that our electrical sockets didn't work, they lectured me like a school girl for using electrical appliances that were not made in Britain. The guy followed me to my room and demanded to see my blow dryer and inspected it disapprovingly for a while, wasting my time. They have no AC, but there is a small fan you can use. However, there is a note on the fan that they will take it away if you leave it on when you are not in the room. Their check out time is 10 am, but you can store your luggage there (for a charge). However, they warn you that when you come back, you won't be allowed to use the restrooms.
“Rude staff...”
There is a hidden 5% surcharge not included in the expedia price. The staff were rude and confrontational when questioned about this. Good location, but staff not worth tolerating for the convenience
