Stay by the lake
Clean place with a great view of Lake Erie. Well equipped kitchen; bbq on a big deck. Quiet. Within 15 minutes of the entrance to Pelee National Park by car and 10-15 minutes to Leamington (for grocery stores, etc.). A 5 minute walk to Hillman Marsh Beach et a few minutes more for the conservation area.

Outstanding view
View of Lake Eire was outstanding...exactly as promised. Beach not a 5 to 10 minute walk around the corner. We did not originally realize that there was no wi fi at the cottage when we booked. Luckily. Maria pointed this out to us in our final confirmation so we came prepared...had printed out some local maps and local restaurant info before we arrived. Loved the location close to Point Pelee National Park and Hillman marsh.Maybe 10 15 minute drive into Leamington. Would definitely rebook.

We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay at our cottage as well as the beautiful view of the lake. Hillman Marsh North Beach is a 5 - 10 minute walk down the street. This beach is very quiet and peaceful. Seacliff Beach however, which is located in Leamington, is a 15 minute drive. We would love to welcome you again!

Neat, tidy and well equipped cottage with large deck right on the water. We had fantastic weather and sitting on the deck was the best part. Deck is quite private as well, which was an added bonus. Owner was highly responsive and very friendly. Great stay and highly recommended.

Spectacular by the Shore
If you are thinking of renting this location, DO NOT HESITATE!! The property is better than the owner's description and photos. We have rented this property three times in the past four years, and we will be renting again. Clean, clean, clean. The view of the lake is incredible and the area is very peaceful. Extremely good communication with the owner. I would give a six star rating if I could.

Honeymoon retreat
Without a doubt.. total relaxation! Perfect choice spending our honeymoon sitting on the massive deck, enjoying a few drinks while listening to the waves hitting the rocks. The cottage was beautiful and the location was perfect and easily accessible to nearby towns. Fantastic owners and just a call away if needed. Highly recommend!

Absolutely amazing!
Where do I start? The check in process was well organized. We were welcomed with a note from the owners that gave it that personal touch. It is a beautiful and bright cottage with the most incredible views from so many windows. I have stayed in a lot of cottages, and this is the first one that I could start enjoying my vacation right away. The cottage was so clean and had all of the essentials. The panoramic view of the water made the sunrises the highlight of my day. Relaxing around a fire was a great way to end the day. We had access to so many nearby trails and beaches. Pelee Provincial Park is a must. The Marsh Boardwalk is one of a kind. I would highly recommend visiting The Cottage By The Shore. I was sad to leave but l am already looking forward to our next visit.

My wife and I stayed here June 15-June 20 for our 5th year anniversary and the property was amazing. Fantastic deck with views of the water. Grocery store was only 15 mins away. Beds were comfortable, the A/C was very much appreciated, cabinets well stocked and the owner was very gracious and quick to respond. What we really appreciated was we didnt have to haul away our garbage and recycling. Also the the cleaning fee was very reasonable and not having a LONG list of things to do at checkout like a lot of properties do these days, even with a cleaning fee. Location was very private and the sound of the waves was so wonderful at night. We would bring our kids out but teenagers wouldn't appreciate no wifi. This is a fantastic property.

Relaxing Stay By the Lake
We had a wonderful stay at Maria’s cottage. It was sparkling clean, well equipped, plenty of room to put our things, decorated to a high standard, and the view was awesome. She was very responsive when we had a question. One day of our stay was a stormy rainy day and we enjoyed the crashing waves from the peace of our windows. There was even a lovely electric fireplace (heatless) that added a cozy ambiance to the day. A perfect place for us to unwind and enjoy a little getaway. We hope to go back.

Wonderful getaway
We stayed at this cottage for 4 nights and it was the absolute highlight of our year. The view of the lake was breathtaking, and it was refreshing to have so much outdoor space and privacy! Great views , huge lot, lots of privacy. I would only rent in fall if you are looking to go in water. The near by beach is not the best. The host was great and responded fast when contacted. I would go back for sure. You are near a hunting area and you hear alot of gunshots. It is great sitting on deck listening to the waves. The area has plenty of nice places to walk. This is a lovely private cottage right on the lake with incredible views. Even though the weather was terrible (three solid days of pouring rain), the kitchen is well equipped for creating full meals and the views of the stormy weather on the lake were spectacular! It is harder to find and, very much appreciated, to rent a place that does not allow pets - - super clean. Thank you!

This is the second time in two years we have rented this cottage. FABULOUS!! The view from inside the home and from the deck overlooking the lake is stunning. Enjoy the sunrise witb a coffee, or the sunset with a nightcap. For those who enjoy cycling, this is a great location... only 13km on quiet rural roads to Point Pelee National Park where you can bike another 9km inside the park (one way) on a newly park road. One amazing week
My family and I stayed for one week at Maria’s cottage, the place is breathtaking , it’s exactly how it is described. It’s a cute 2 bedroom cottage , perfect for our family of four and the deck makes it all worth it. No matter what time of the day it is , you will enjoy it for sure. We haven’t been in this area before and we didn’t know what to expect but there is so much to do. One thing that I could mention here was that the coffee machine was a bit tricky , we didn’t spent too much time on figure out how to use it and we end up buying a cheap one to use for the time we were there. But this is only a minor issue that didn’t overshadowed our vacation there. For younger kids there is a small beach walking distance which is very private. The side yard it’s been great for the days you want to sit in the shade. The fire pit area is great as well, we had one night where the moon was so bright and with the wood fire on it felt unbelievable. I wish I had an option where you can share photos of the experience you have while staying there. Maria is been great at communicating with us and answering any questions we had. We are looking forward to come back!

Quiet, relaxing, great view
We would definitely go back here. It was quiet and had everything we needed. The side yard was big enough to play with the kids and the beach was 2 minute bike ride away. Leamington close enough to run in and get what you need and then back to the relaxing quietness. It was our first time to this area of Ontario and thought it was really nice. Point Pelee National Park was 25 min drive away. Thank you Maria. Everything was as advertised.

Seeking Tranquility at the Lake Because of Health Crises
The location is spectacular & we thoroughly enjoyed the huge deck. The owners are warm & caring people who were so kind regarding my situation. There are warm touches of home everywhere in the cottage. I'm not a bug person. Beware going in June. June bugs were out in swarms & their dead bodies coated everything. Yuck! That being said, I put up with them for that view. Even though dead bugs were inside the cottage in the window sills, on top of kitchen surfaces, in the bathroom, in the sheets, even a live spider in the sheets. It seemed like no one cared to clean these up or spray a bug bomb once in awhile & then clean. Maybe the sheets had been sitting awhile. They seemed clean but again, I don't like bugs. I had to use my travel bug spray many times as there were lots of flying bugs inside. The overall cleanliness of the cottage was not up to my standards. Especially with Covid, you would like to think the surfaces were clean. They were not. The last thing I want to do when I'm on vacation & just drove 5 hrs, is clean the living space before I can even move in. Especially when I've paid a huge cleaning fee! I spent 1 1/2 hrs cleaning and it's not that large. We brought food to cook because of Covid & because the kitchen was not clean, didn't cook anything. The stove top was dirty, fridge was dirty inside, also had bugs & fruit flies, the microwave had old coated food on the outside as did the stove, the kitchen counters had crumbs & were dirty. The kitchen sink was dirty & yet had a crumbled, used wipe left in it. The leather sofas had food crumbs on them, the floors had food & bugs like they hadn't been swept. The toilet had a scum around the inside of the seat. That is just gross! In the pictures everything looks nice & clean. But it wasn't. I reported this to the owner who did return our cleaning fee but that was the least she could have done. She should have had the property managers clean again & given us another day to make up for it. I specifically asked the owner about ceiling fans as I have a small fan I travel with and would have brought it but she said not necessary. The fan above my bed sounded like a train was in the room. We had to buy another. I'm allergic to pets & was assured pets are not allowed. In cleaning , I found lots of pet hair. So every time the air came on, I was sneezing & coughing. The owner made excuses for the cleaning people. Trust me, I would not take my precious time to write this review if not true.

I am truly disappointed in the above review. I am appalled at the fact that the guest has made up some incredible lies. We take great pride in keeping our cottage clean and disinfected both inside and out as past guests and returning guests can attest to. We have high standards and expectations, especially during the pandemic, and this does not sound at all like she is describing our place. The guest seemed like a very thoughtful person in the beginning as I listened to her personal tragedy stories which I felt compassion for. After she explained her dissatisfaction with the situation, we kindly reimbursed her the cleaning fees since there was no way of adding an extra night due to other reservations. In response to having the caretaker return to clean, that was never even an option since our place would never be left in such disarray. I am truly at a loss for the insensitivity of this guest. Nonetheless, Pamela, I wish you peace, good health, and happiness.

INCREDIBLE SPOT
WOW we were completely blown away by Maria's "Cottage by the Shore". We were looking for a weekend staycation spot to celebrate our anniversary and we couldn't have found a better spot. Right from my first inquiry Maria was incredibly helpful and kind. Everything leading up to check in was perfect, but nothing could prepare us for the minute we walked into the cottage and turned the corner to see the full view of the lake. Even the photos just don't do it justice. The best part is that you look like your ON the lake.. you have an amazing view from almost every window, and there are no neighbors close by, we had incredible privacy while not feeling like we were in the middle of nowhere. Being just 10 minutes to Leamington made it perfect to go in for dinner, but the kitchen was also a dream to cook in. Everything you need is there! It was a little cold this weekend but even from inside the cottage we were able to enjoy the view through the three side by side patio doors. The beds were comfortable, having satellite was a bonus, there were even board games to play. Honestly I cannot say enough about this place. I didn't want to leave!!! We WILL be back, as will a bunch of our friends and family who were so blown away by our photos! Thank you so much Maria- we cannot wait to book your beautiful spot again.

Peaceful and Beautiful
The cottage itself was very lovely and had updated decor. There were 6 of us and so one person had to sleep on the pullout which was uncomfortable. The view was breathtaking. We totally enjoyed sitting out at night and watching the full moon glow on the water all the while feeling like we were on a ship out at sea (without the seasickness!) The neighborhood isn't all that terrific but not a problem. It was a short drive to see butterflies at the National Park and we saw many birds just in the neighborhood of the cottage itself. I would highly recommend and would love to go back!

Amazing Weekend
We spent 4 nights in September and this cottage is really amazing. Maria was great with the communication, the cottage had most of the things you need, but is in a very good location (15 minutes from Walmart, LCBO etc.), so anything forgotten can be picked up easily. The deck is large and beautiful - we spent most of our time here! The cottage is right on the water and the views are gorgeous. The yard is also a good amount of space to throw a frisbee or a football around. There were A LOT of spiders. We had to clear the deck of webs every morning in order to use the chairs, tables etc. but it was manageable. Overall, 100% recommend!

Maria’s Perfect Cottage
My stay at Maria’s cottage was amazing! The cottage is everything it looks like in the pictures and then some! The location is incredible along with the surroundings. There is a small gravel beach right next door that is great for gradual entry into the water. If you are a little more brave you can also climb down the rocks right at the end of the deck. The rocks are also great for laying on while tanning. Point Pelee provincial park is only a 15 minute drive away. A great spot for hiking and more adventure. There is also a sandy beach about 5 minutes walking distance from the cottage. All the reviews said that the spider webs and bugs were terrible and I was nervous about this but I was pleasantly surprised by hardly any spiderwebs and bugs at all. Things I would change about the cottage, I would have another lounger chair on the deck instead of just 1, it definitely needs at least 2. Also there is almost everything in the cottage except coffee. Maria did leave us a lovely welcome basket with some coffee in it, but it wasn’t enough for us. The cottage had everything else- all condiments in the fridge, plastic wrap and tin foil. Lots of towels and pillows and extra blankets. TV’s in every room so no need to share. I did not like that the TV has recording ability, but you cannot delete the recordings. If there are 2 shows recording at the same time you cannot watch any other channels other than what’s recording. I would never have watched the shows that were recording so that was really annoying to me. Those small things aside, I would happily stay at this cottage again without hesitation!

A great getaway
Once you get to the lake-side street you start seeing some houses there and you see that not all of them are close to the lake and might seem a bit too close to one another. Then you get to Maria's house and your jaw drops. You see a patio right on the lake with lots of space and a great backyard with a fire pit. The house was very tidy and had everything one can possibly need. We saw from the previous reviews that the outside required some cleaning, but the thing was that even with our own cleaning, the next day the same spider webs were back where we cleaned them. So I don't think it's at Maria's fault here that nature gets a bit in the way. We cooked on the grill that's connected to the gas line and watched recorded movies on the Tivo when the rain was too much for the satellite reception. We enjoyed playing the games in the house and had a good relaxing sleep with the small waves from the lake hitting the rocks there. Overall the only problem we had was the clouds and short showers that didn't allow us to get a tan too, but it's a place we would more than gladly want to come back to and relax ourselves. The cellular signal was a bit spotty, but in such a place you wouldn't mind that one bit. We were greeted with a lovely personal message from Maria and the points of interest from the notes on the wall helped us reach the Canadian Superstore (9km away) where we found more beers to enjoy while we watched movies. Thank you again Maria for having us and we hope to come again soon!
