“Unfriendly hotel management did not accept cancellation, although received unwished smoking room”

We booked a non-smoking room. However, when we arrived, it was a smoking room. Since there was no available non-smoking room, we had to cancel the reservation. The receptionist ensured us that we would not be charged for this reservation. Unfortunately, this was not true. A later discussion with the unfriendly hotel mangement did not help. Very frustrating experience.
