"Great staff and breakfast, room with niggles "
We've stayed here a few times several years ago. The hotel is being done up outside and the finished parts look really smart. Inside it's got lots of character. A new lift takes you up, opening onto spacious hallways and we remembered the creaky floors. We booked our room on Expedia, the cheapest available so we didn't get the best one - ours was facing into an ugly internal light well - again being done up by the look of it so it may not be as ugly next time. We had a twin room 246 with a nice bathroom, most things were fine, just a few niggles. The cold tap in the bathroom wouldn't turn on easily, the extractor fan was very noisy (over 60db) and the shower was so difficult to turn off that it took 2 of us to turn the dial. We didn't find a hair dryer either, or any notepaper and pen. The beds were comfortable enough, the pillows were not quite right for my wife, but staff quickly brought us 2 thicker ones. The breakfast was one of the best buffets we've had (we usually stay in good hotels). It was very well organised and the staff were super efficient, we especially noticed an older Chinese man who would collect plates from tables as soon as they looked empty - he had such a disarming manner that people at other tables were lifted by his cheerfulness - the whole team was excellent, the manager was obviously a good one. All staff we encountered were very helpful and made the stay enjoyable. This is a much more interesting place to stay than the modern ones we usually use.

"By the Beach, handy for casino and town"
Cheap, good value, booked two rooms for the party, the Single Room was as large as the Double room, and clean, unlike some earlier reviews, the Hotel in the main is not a bad standard.

"Nice, small, family run hotel"
This small hotel is located next to the River Wyre and has some lovely rooms. I stayed 4 night with them at 75 pounds per night including breakfast. The room was very nice, with lovely large bed, view of the river and great shower. The room was recently re-done and has great wallpaper. The food is very good, the breakfast has some excellent old time favourites on the menu, like soft boiled eggs with soldiers, and porridge. But it is all home cooked and tastes very fresh and lovely. The staff are friendly and helpful, very caring. I missed that there was no newspaper in the breakfast room. The carpark is very ugly, but large. there is no lift/elevator in the hotel.

"Excellent value hotel"
Second time here and won't be the last. Yes, the rooms are basic but very clean and comfortable enough. Food very good and great choices. Entertainment good for a laugh and staff all pleasant and work very hard to ensure all runs like clockwork. Cafe bar with lunch and snacks a nice touch. Definitely recommended for a weekend/short break.

"Short stay at the Cliffs."
Superb value for money with free upgrades supplied by friendly, helpful staff. The food was excellent and the chef was able and happy to cater for all dietary requirements. Entertainment and free coach trips etc. available every day etc. Catered well for elderly people too. The room was clean and well heated with a fabulous sea view. Only a 2 star because of small lift and no trouser press in rooms, otherwise it would be a well deserved 4 star!
