"Beautiful hotel with excellent staff"
This was, to my mind, a luxury hotel. We were initially a bit nervous when we booked due to some reviewers complaints about its location. It's not on the river. It's not in the wildly expensive tourist or business parts of town. For our purposes, it was great. Outstanding and thoughtful service, a real treat at the end of a long trip. A fellow reviewer recommended a coffee shop for a quick pleasant and inexpensive breakfast - it's just up the street to the right as you leave the hotel from the main lobby, at the corner, with the red awning that says "Coffee Shop" It's not affiliated with the hotel in any way, but it's good and for under 2000 yen for a family of four for breakfast, it's far more economical than 3000 yen per person for the hotel restaurant.

"A little bit of home in Kyoto"
If you've stayed in a Crowne Plaza before, this will be familiar. Rooms are Western-sized (with a mini-bar for that extra bit of deja vu) and a full bathroom. Staff speak a variety of languages - I didn't even get a chance to start talking in Japanese. Breakfast is a combo Western/Japanese buffet (you'll get a discount ticket at check-in, but it's still 2000 yen per person with that). It's a block away from the Kyoto Metro, so you have easy access to the city from here. Also, there was supposedly a beer garden while we were there, though we didn't have time to check it out. Late spring into summer is when that runs.

"Great hotel"
This is a great hotel in the perfect location, just 10 minutes walk from Kyoto station. The French restaurant on the top floor is amazing, the views of the city are breath-taking. I would recommend this hotel as a great base in when staying in Kyoto

"Excellent Location"
I stay @ this hotel often. Typically as a bridge between accessing longer-term lodging. It's location is central to all shopping, transportation, etc. Karasuma Dori is one of the main North-South streets in Kyoto. Kyoto Station (Eki) is on Karasuma, south of the hotel, making it quite easy by taxi, or, by foot to access the hotel. The breakfast area is spectacular. This hotel is an excellent value.

"Lovely hotel in a wooded area"
Beautiful location on the edge of Tokyo and very near a metro stop. We even saw a beautiful deer in the woods from hotel window. Not convenient to walking in the thick Kyoto. Not a lot of convenient food choices. Hotel gift shop is better than average and priced well.

"wonderful hotel, location not so good"
wonderful hotel, location not so good since it is far from everything and even the conveniance store is pretty far. but if you can afford to be in the hotel than you can pay for the taxi to get to places as well ;) actually the kyoto station is not so far, only 20 minutes walk. but all the tourist destinations are pretty far. nice hotel though and i would definitely stay here again :)
