“A nice place to stay in Kuopio, Finland”
This was a good hotel and surrounding area especially for the price. The property has lake access and nice typical walking paths as much of Finland does have. The rooms are large for Europe standards. If staying for a few days there is much to do inside and outside. The restaurant was well priced for Finland standards and the food was good as were the employees. Also, they have a good beer variety of not just Finnish beers. I liked it.

Great value, well facilitated. I think I spent too much time in the pools and spas (that's a good thing)!
“Great Stay!”
I stayed at the Spa Hotel Rauhalahti during Finland's Midsummer Festival (18-21 June). The festival itself was interesting to witness (no one talked to me at all...but that's typical Finn's for you, I guess). The hotel was very pleasant. The selection of pools was fun and the sauna/steam room use was easy, even for a foreigner! Laundry service was not good. In-house laundering service costs were robbery (4 euro for a pair of underwear!) and finding services away from the hotel was not easy. Breakfast buffet was excellent. I didn't try the lunch or dinner buffets that are offered daily, but the ala carte menu choices were great!
“Good value for families and groups”
The hotel was not at all as we expected, but nonetheless provided a great deal of entertainment. The title of a Spa Hotel, without reading through the detailed description carefully, gave an impression of great luxury and comfort. And indeed the Spa itself with its 25m pool, jacuzzis and saunas was of very high quality and well worth 4 stars. The room was comfortable and perfectly adequate, although our shower could have been better. It was a good 3 star room. Arriving as we did in the middle of an Elvis Presley Festival, there was certainly plenty of entertainment on this and to a lesser extent on other nights. The staff on reception were friendly and helpful, but the buffet restaurant, a large barn of a place, was more like a canteen, lacked atmosphere and barely rated 2 stars. There was however a small dining area with better food, which we happily tried. The staff in the restaurant looked tired and not enjoying their work. To sum up because of the Spa the hotel represents good value for money for families and groups, but otherwise we feel it was overrated.
