    “A little dissapointed”

We had 2 adults and 3 children with us, our 2 bedroom condo claimed to sleep 6 people but I'm not sure where they would sleep. The master bedroom was nice and big with a king bed large walk in closet and nice bathroom, 2nd bedroom had a double bed and small closet. There was a couch and a loveseat in the living room, but neither pulled out into a bed. You were not allowed to hang your beach towels outside on the patio to dry so you either had to put them in the dryer or hang them in the bathroom and hope they dried by morning. The pool is small, but the beach is within a 5 minute walk. The beach was nice and there were 2 different areas. One for boogie board or body surfing and another for snorkling and wading area. There are several tennis courts, so if you play that is a plus. There were also nice walking paths that you could take to get to the beach and other resorts. The lobby is on a different road than the actual condos. It tooks us a while to figure this out. If you have a family of 4 and the kids don't mind sharing a bed then I would recommend staying here, but if you have 3 kids it doesn't work real well to stay in the 2 bedroom. The room was clean but it could use some updating. The dryer timer didn't work, there was water damage on some of the walls and housekeeping came and dumped trash but only made the beds once the 8 days we were there. I guess I had higher expectations.

    Area recommendations
I would recommend staying on this Island. We visited all sides and really enjoyed the Waimae Canyon and the drive up to the North Shore. I would pick up the pamphlets in your resort lobby of area things to do. We didn't do this until day 6 of our trip and saw several thing we wish we would have had time to go see.
    Getting there
Trying to save money I choose to take 3 flights. This worked fine going, but was exhausting because we had 2 layovers and they were less than 30 minutes. This made for a very long day. The other half of our group took 2 flights with one 3 hour layover and this worked great for them. On the way home we again had 3 flights and we missed a connection and ended up spending 5 1/2 hours in one of the airports. With the time difference this meant we were up for almost 34 hours before we made it home. I would not recommend this especially when traveling with children.
    Getting around
There were 10 of us and we rented a 15 passenger van. This was nice, that way we could all travel together, but it was hard to park and the roads are narrow and curvey. Definately take a GPS system with you or rent one from the rental car place. We had our own and used it everyday!
    Dining
Food is expensive. Whether you eat out or go to the grocery be prepared. Our meals out averaged $100. Our meals in averaged $52.
    Events and shows
Definately do Luau. We saw the one at the Hyatt and it was fantastic. We also went zip lineing. If you've never done this, I would highly recommend it. My kids (10, 13 and 15) enjoyed it alot. If you can afford it, I would go to Pearl Harbor. Because it was on a different Island we had to fly there and that made the trip a bit expensive, but well worth it.

    “so, so”

The location of the hotel to restaurants and our planned activities was excellent. The surrounding neighborhood was excellent. Housekeeping was hit or miss. I thought the shower/tub was kinda grotesque. At first I thought it was just old but then I realized that it was more dirty than old. The kitchen was great, the view from the lani was great BUT it was right next to the pool and tennis courts where water aerobics was held in the mornings. Lastly, if you are not 100% sure that you can deal with the open air type windows commonly found in Hawaii vs. Air conditioning, don't do it. Find a place with A/C. This was my first time staying in a place with no A/C and it was awesome during the day but I personally could not sleep with the stickiness and heat at night time. Our room was 112.

    “poipu!”

Great location, walk to the beach/tidepools and food a quick drive away. Room was very clean and had decent appliances/cupboards/carpetpaint/etc.. didn't have the cheap as possible to build hotel feel. The bad: no tub for the kids and no a/c they didn't replenish our coffee and soaps. Also when we arrived at 2pm we were told our room wasn't ready, this really messed with our 1st day scheduling.

    Area recommendations
Poipu, because I swam with a sea turtle and the snorkeling was best at this beach
    What to pack
Make sure you check your closet before you rent any gear. We found 2 boogie boards and a couple pairs of snorkel gear and sunblock! Note: if you are a smoker stock up! Cigarettes are very expensive in HI

    “Very Disappointed!”

The condo was older than expected and well used. Needed to be updated and cleaned better as the rooms had a smell of mold in placed. I had stayed in the other section of this complex where the rooms were very nice but we ended up in this disappointing room. The view from the lanai was fantastic with an ocean view but still did not make up for the poor condition of the condo.

    Area recommendations
The location of the condo in Poipu, Kauai was perfect with access to the best beaches and eating establishments plus close to several day activitiy check-in locations.

“All the Comforts of Home...in Paradise”

This hotel/condo was perfect for our travel needs. We had all the comforts of home, were within a short walk of the beach, enjoyed wonderful landscaping and facilities at the Aston...can't say enough! I would definitely recommend the Aston Poipu Kai to a friend, and would not hesitate to stay again.

“Laid back on the south side of Kauai”

The condo we had was roomy, with a pair of twin beds in the downstairs bedroom and a king upstairs. No AC, but we didn't really need it, the ceiling fans were adequate. When they say Kauai "trade winds", the emphasis is on WIND. I think Kauai would be a great place for a wind farm. We took advantage of the full kitchen a lot, and my wife especially appreciated the icemaker, which we don't have at home. Somehow i think that will be on her list the next time we shop for a fridge. The closest real grocery store requires driving into Koloa, which you should do anyway. I highly recommend the walking path that goes from Poipu Beach (roughly) to Shipwreck Beach. It is beautiful and relaxing especially at sunset. As advertised it is about a half a mile walk down to Poipu & Brenneke's beach from where we stayed, but others had a shorter trek. The only negative on the room itself was that it is an older building (probably built in the 80's or 90's), where the critters have definitely found how to get in. We frequently saw geckos on the wall and small beetles on the carpets. Some might think that is closer to nature than they wanted to be. Also the windows are mostly the louver type, and with the strong winds, were whistling because they would not shut tight. Advice for Kauai visitors. Bring bug spray that *works* for you! When you go inland into the jungle, mosquitos are the dominant form of life, not humans.

    Area recommendations
Old town Koloa is nice. Some small shops to look at and touristy restaurants. There are also Poipu Village and Kukui'ula Village which have a range of souvenir shops as well as some chain clothing stores and restaurants.
    Shopping
On the way to (or back from) Waimea Canyon, I recommend the Kauai Coffee plantation and the Kauai Cookie factory in Hanapepe. Especially for the cookies, you won't find them cheaper anywhere else!
    Events and shows
Highly recommended - Luau Kalamaku at Kilohana plantation. The food was excellent, and so were the Mai Tai's. I expected the show to be run of the mill, or overcooked with drama, but was pleasantly surprised. The live music, dancers, costumes, lighting and story combined to create a immersive entertaining experience. And yes, there is FIRE.

    “Great, relaxing time.”

We did not expect a full kitchen in the place, but it was a great surprise. We truly enjoyed our time at this location. It was very peaceful with a nice laid back feel. It was exactly what we were looking for and hoping for.

“Great location would staty there again”

The condo that we stayed in was very nice and clean not to far from the ocean or pools and definitly the best side of Kauai to stay on, however the location of the condo was next to a road which meant you could hear all the noise due to the type of windows used on the islands.

    Area recommendations
We personally like the South and West side of the Island due to the weather
    Outdoors or beach
The last beach on the north-west side of the island is nice, blocks the wind and seems to be sunny most of the tim. The south-west end is way more sunny and there is a lot less rain than on the north and east side of the island. Take things to lay on the sand isn't the soft kind.

    “A Perfect Stay”

This hotel was perfect. We booked a 1 bedroom unit. The unit was fully renovated and quite beautiful. All the amenities including laundry. It was a very short walk to the beach where we often snorkled with the majestic sea turtles. the suites were very large and very clean. There were plenty of nearby charming towns and restaurants and stores to explore.
