I liked nothing about the place, they were used condoms in the bin disgusting and other things, no towels when we checked in and we were given wet, lousy excuse sorry the towels didn’t dry properly...shiii place i wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Regards Very unhappy guest.

Centrally located with very friendly staff
My room was comfortable and reasonably priced, although it was warmer than what I would have preferred. The staff was really friendly and helpful. There was quite a variety of items available in the breakfast buffet and it was very delicious. There was a Hop On Hop Off Tour bus stop right in front of the hotel, which was really convenient for me. My only real complaint was with the beggars who hung around the street block and tended to harass tourists waiting for the bus.

Poor experience - significant decline over a year
I visited this hotel last year, had a good experience and looked forward to staying there on my visit this year. It was relatively affordable for me. However, the facilities seem to have taken a nosedive in a year. Internet never seemed to work consistently in the Hotel despite this being one of the points of advertisement. When it did work, it was only in the reception. Likewise, there was a musky smell on the corridors of the hotel.

The hotel was under major renovation and the key card machine was broken, so hotel staff had to escort people to allow them entry to their rooms every time they came in and out. Wifi was inconsistent. The conditions of the stay were frustrating, but front line staff were friendly and supportive.

horrible, will never recommend this hotel. torn curtains, paid for breakfast but was told that this did not include breakfast. anyway, would not even want to eat here, looking at the room and looking at the staff ironing outside my door.

Horrible experince
Really bed when I got there there was no one but the security guard at reception because the receptionist had gone drinking at the close by night clubs... he eventually got there but couldn't check me in for another two hours, he was so drunk he kept on sending me to a couple of rooms that were not cleaned and one of the rooms looked like it still had guests because there were personal belongings. after the search for the room ended eventually I had to wait for him another 45 minutes to open the garage for the parking area because he was busy attacking my friends physically. when I got to the room it had no towels whatsoever. his name is Lebo

Potential but needs some changes
The hotel has potential, but the cleaning service needs help. The hotel needs to purchase new bed sheets and provide everything need such as towels before checking in. We were happy to hear that there was new management and they are looking at making positive changes.

The room was a good size, , heating was good , however the property can use a little updates to the flooring and bathrooms. Breakfast was made to order . Wifi don't work sometimes , it's a ok hotel and the location is definitely very good ! right in the center of town !

Made a room booking for 2 adults and 2 teenage kids. Room only included King Bed and single mattress on the floor. Refused to change as they said enough beds for booking. Staff could not make decisions to change without authority and didn't seem to know how to deal with it!

Trip almost spoilt by poor reception
Firstly, the first shock when I arrived was that the hotel didn't have my booking and the pre-payment that was made on the hotels.com website, so I had to rebook from scratch and also pay by credit card. I am still waiting for my refund, as I had already paid hotels.com for the booking. Secondly, the hotel seemed to be short staffed. Every time when we went out there was no one at the front desk and the same applied when we came back. Thirdly, the lady at reception told us supper was between 6:30 pm and 8:30, yet when we reported for supper at 7:00, we were told that "they are closed becaude there are no customers." We had to go to a nearby shop outside the hotel to get something to eat. The lady at reception was nice, but this still didn't change the fact that we went through the bad experience explained above.

An older property located in the fairly convenient location in the Brammfontein district. Area seemed quite safe. Restaurant was under construction. Extremely helpful staff and courteous staff. Reasonably priced.

Where do I start? They gave us the wrong room key so we walked into someone else's room. No internet service and no one to call to fix it. The keys of the room didnt work. There were only 2 employees working at the hotel! The poor girl at reception was extremely helpful and I couldn't be annoyed with her, she did the best she could. The guy at the bar was the same person who delivered my food to my room! This is how I know it was only them working as he also was the one that came to our room as the safe wasn't working either! The hotel is located in a central place where you have restaurants nearby, however, as a single woman I didn't feel very safe there. Everything that could go wrong did. Asked for a wake up call, didn't received it either! This hotel might have been a success some years ago. I don't blame the staff they were courteous and helpful. The owners should be ashamed of the way they run this hotel. You need more staff and upgrade your services. Quite disgraceful. I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay there unless you are desperate for a place to spend the night of course with no connection to the world as the phones were also not working properly. On a positive note, their restaurant was very nice and the breakfast selection was ok.

Good location, good standard
Hotel is currently undergoing renovations (April 2014). Within walking distance from Johannesburg Park station, where you can catch the Gautrain to the airport (change in Sandton). Also wallking distance to the hop-on, hop-off sightseeing bus. Room was a little tired but perfectly acceptable. Breakfast was included in my rate, still I was presented with a bill. I of course refused to sign it. Still, it reappeared when I checked out, accompanied by two other receipts for drinks I was supposed to have had in the bar. As I never set foot in their bar, I refused to pay them a penny, and they immediately backed down. Not a nice trick! The receptionist did not know how to print out wi-fi codes so I had to go without for far too long.

Good city centre hotel
There are not that many hotels in Braamfontein and there is no point in staying miles away from the city in some northern suburb or even worse Sandton, so the Devonshire definitely has location in its favour. Rooms are relatively large, very clean and the hotel staff is very polite and efficient. Admittedly the furniture has a few scratches and bathroom fixtures have been in place for a while, but beds are new and comfortable. So, for aJoburg city centre hotel with charm and tradition, the Devonshire is the place.

Nice, Clean Hotel
The hotels in Waco being too expensive for the Baylor homecoming, we found Relax Inn, which is about 25 minutes away. It's a small hotel in a small town, but was clean and comfortable. The king bed was great!

For the price I did not expect many bells and whistles. The room had a fridge and microwave, the A/C worked, and the bed was ok. However, the cleanliness left something to be desired. While the sink and tub appeared to have been cleaned, the bathroom door was covered in dirty handprints to the point that I just decided not to touch the door knob assuming that it too had probably never been wiped with a cleaning rag. There were a few other cleaning issue I won't expand on.

Das Hotel liegt sehr zentral in Johannesburg. Sehr viele Jugendliche sind dort nachts unterwegs, daher ist eine gewisse Lärmkulisse vorhanden. Es gibt eine bewachte Tiefgarage, in der man beruhigt und kostenfrei das Auto abstellen kann. Die Zimmer sind ein wenig abgewohnt, aber dennoch sauber. Das Frühstück war sehr gut!

Nice Hotel in the lively heart of Jo'burg
I stayed in this hotel only one night after coming back from my Kruger safari but I wish I could have stayed longer! The rooms are nice and quiet, with WiFi in the room and a big flatscreen-TV. The location is perfect, near Park Station and the Saturday Food Market. If you are looking for noise, bars and restaurants, Braamfontein the right place to be! You just have to be aware of the fact that you are in Johannesburg and you might want to take a taxi/Uber (R 60/30) from the Gautrain Park Station to the hotel, especially at weekends and at night (it is only 1km but not very safe to walk)
