architecture of this hotel is great, very romantic and beautifully. especially if you read about history of it.
staff is very friendly and help full. but hotel needs complete makeover. i like history and old staff but if is maintained and preserved.
We could not have picked a more perfect hotel. So clean and beautiful! The breakfast buffet every morning was outstanding. We always ate too much! lol I have never slept in a more comfortable bed. The room was just so clean and the bathroom was always sparkling. The room we chose was labeled a superior room with shower. We had plenty of room to move around and store all our suitcases and purchases. Loved the separate closets with motion sensor lighting. The only thing we would have loved to have had was an iron and board. They also supplied a great hair dryer. Good thing because I fried mine when I forgot to use the Chinese adapter.

What a little gem this place is! Hidden away yet right in the heart of Shanghai. The manager is amazing - she got us out of trouble a couple of times without hesitation and extended warm hospitality to my clients when they had to unexpectedly wait for me at the hotel. No request was too much trouble! Highly recommended!

I've stayed at this hotel several times and travel to China very frequently. I've been to the best and worst China has to offer to be sure. I'm not fussy about amenities. All I ask for is a clean room, comfortable bed, nice hot shower with good pressure, and reliable internet. City Hotel has all of these things. Nothing fancy, so definitely not a vacation hotel, but if you approach China business travel same as me, you'll be satisfied. And for the price, can't beat it.
This is one of the best and most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in my life.
Every detail in the decoration is beautiful, rooms are super comfortable.
Breakfast is awesome, we ate much more that we should have to :-)
Staff was super polite too.
Fitness center is very big and with enough aerobic machines for everybody
My sons used the sauna and spa and they were delighted
The location is great: it is on Nanjing Road, surrounded but luxury shopping centers, but not in the middle of the traffic and noise that you find nearer The Bund.
Around the corner there is a restaurant called Lynn that it is one of the best Chinese restaurants I ever ate.
We also had dinner in another restaurant inside the mall next door, which was excellent.
The hotel is part of a retail and office building, you can find in the basement a luxury supermarket with foreign products ( expensive, but useful if you miss food from your land. It is also Angelina, a famous Paris restaurant that we love ( try the Mont Blanc, their signature dessert).
The only con: taxis are scarce and there is always a long line, but there is an Uber dedicated stop ( first time I see this), so we called an Uber that arrived in 3 minutes
A central and highly populated district, Jing’an is home to a large number of expatriates and several luxurious residential complexes. The striking Buddhist Jing’an Temple is definitely worth a visit. Considered one of Shanghai’s most famous sights, the temple features the largest jade sitting Buddha statue in China and a 3.5-ton Ming Dynasty copper bell.
