“Very okay”
The Tonquin Inn is a very average accommodation. We stayed in a standard room that was recently renovated EXCEPT the bathroom which was mangy and dirty. The A/C was very loud but at least it worked. The staff were friendly but never asked how our stay was which annoys me. Overall I don't think we'd stay here again.
“Nice hotel”
Nice hotel in jasper, recently updated. Has a sweet indoor pool and the service was great.
“Pricey but not bad”
Decent hotel for Jasper but a bit pricey for what you get. Rooms are decent, pool was good, staff were helpful, but if you need Wi-Fi, it was non-existent during out stay. Bought the breakfast buffet tickets, it was pretty good in price compared to other restaurants in the area. Overall, I would go back.
“Not so great hotel !!!”
It was noisy and you could hear other guest from your room. Good thing was that it had a full-kitchen and we had no problem getting kids to sit on the chairs and eat their breakfast...even though we paid for the free breakfast but were never told until check-out time. Service was terrible...when we arrive for check-in at 4:30PM, the room was not ready and we needed to wait for 15 minutes for them to clean it !!
“Jasper July 2011”
Awesome hotel. Very cozy. Extremely friendly and helpful staff.
“Not what I expected”
The Tonquin is at the far end of Jasper, which I understood from reading these reviews; not an issue since we had a car; and we did walk into town once and it wasn't a bad walk. Our room was on the second floor, no elevators and was a recently updated room. The updates I think were new mattresses and paint and carpet. The furniture was old and beat up. The bathroom is tiny, with a small sink in the room. We had two doubles, and there was barely room to get around them. The T.V was small and the coffeepot leaked the next morning, which we told the desk, but they didn't replace in the two days we were there. I don't think this hotel is worth the price, but it is Jasper. It was by far the most unispired, dated and expensive hotel we had on our 10 day trip. The new mattresses were comfortable though.
“Good value and experience”
Good value in a scenic setting. Amenities like the pool, 3 hot tubs, and laundry room were well maintained and useful. We were on ground floor so that helped. We stayed during the summer so can't speak to the winter mountain experience. A minor down side at time was the 5- 10 minute walk into the heart of Jasper. When you want to go into town 2- 3 times a day or if you have small kids to manage, think about that. You just have to plan for it.
“Not very impressed.”
Reception staffs are very friendly and helpful. They are good. The male phone operator is very average, not keen to help at all. The room is not that clean. Room is overdue for renovation. Lack of power outlets in the room. Wireless Net Connection is reasonably good. Good to have elevator service.
“Sufficient Room - Satisfied Customers”
First, the hotel staff was friendly and honestly tried to be helpful on every occasion. Our room was clean and quite sufficient. Since we had a pet friendly room, we were on the ground floor. No biggie, but at every other door, there's a smoker's pot. We thought this was a little odd, but apparently this is standard issue at the Tonquin Inn. (Perhaps European tourists expect this?) My husband moved the smoker's pot that was directly in front of our room off to the side by the stairs so that we didn't have people lingering directly in front of our room. We also ended up with the handicap room. It was pretty cramped because the bathroom was cavernous, but we made do. When we inquired about the smoker's pots, we were offered a double room -- and in 20/20 hindsight, we should have taken it just for the breathing space, but since it, too, had a smoker's pot in front, we opted to stay put. The inn is on the edge of town. It isn't in the heart of downtown Jasper by any means, and you have to circumnavigate a fenced off housing development to get to it. It's walkable, but we drove because of impending rain. In short, the hotel service was good, the hotel felt a little dated but clean. The comfort of the room was impaired slightly but the size and smoker's pots, the location was ok but not super, the surrounding neighborhood wasn't anything to write home about (other than the awesome mountains which are everywhere up there) and we were, overall, quite satisfied with the room.
“Good hotel but nothing special”
Stayed here for two nights. Room was very small but decent - we were mostly just there to sleep anyway. Liked how it was within walking distance to the town centre. Some of the staff could be a bit more professional - but that's sort of how a lot of staff in Jasper/Banff seem to be... Would probably stay again because it was convenient being right in the park.
