If you remember the quality of customer service in Japan 15 years ago this hotel has that standard of great customer service. Bell-people insisted on carrying our bags, provided good advice, tried to use every bit of English they were able and had a good attitude. There was a problem in our reservation, and the manager and staff really worked hard to make the change we needed.
The location is close to a beautiful secluded beach without the feeling that the beach is right under the hotel. My children loved the un-fancy, straight forward large pool. We bought one room with the ocean view, and another without the view for our kids. The ocean view room was worth it. It isn't a matter of the same room one with a view, one without. The ocean side rooms are clearly prioritized in terms of cleanliness, upkeep and quality. And the view was wonderful.
The onsen wasn't something extravagant, but the facility was clean and useful and close to the pool. Laundry machines were convenient with the beach and pool. It is not close to the city. We walked frequently down the steep hill to eat at the local soba shop, as we did not choose to eat at the restaurant.
