“Four -and-one-half stars!”
We had a three night stay to attend a wedding at Playa Blanca. The service was wrap-around - unobtusive but everpresent. The restaurant food was uniformly excellent, the rooms beautifully appointed, the beach options varied, and the overall stay even bette than we expected. We recomend The Tides without reservation.
“The Tides was great!!!”
Just as others have said, the service provided by the staff of The Tides is exceptional. Our lagoon suite was perfect with a view from our living area/infinity edge plunge pool, over the lagoons to the ocean. Who could argue with having coffee and coissants delivered to your room each morning, then going to the beach raising a little flag, ordering a cocktail and sipping it listening to the waves. Lunch on the beach is served next to your lounger on a table set with linen and silver. It's all about the details and The Tides does it very well. Some food was good (ceviche, grilled shrimp and squid salad which is not on the menu, but they gladly made it), some not so much. Our only complaint was that the hotel has an arrangement with guests of the condo building located directly behind The Tides. Condo owners and their guests have beach privileges at The Tides. After our first day, we realized that people would go down to the beach as early as 6 or 7am, place personal items on lounge chairs and leave, not to return for several hours which left some of us with difficulty getting chairs. This is not behavior you'd expect at a property of this calliber. We mentioned it to the front desk as did others. Perhaps they can rectify the situation. We recommend getting to the beach early.
“This place is wonderful!”
We had a fabulous time. The service is excellent and everyone was so friendly. Beautiful setting and great location. It was on the high end of our price range, but so worth it!
“Perfect Place to Getaway”
You feel like you're in a tropical paradise. The limited # of rooms (only 70) and the layout of the place makes it seem very much a secluded getaway that isn't too touristy. Zihua is a lovely fishing village and you get a flavor of real Mexico without the hype. Pool/Beach/Cabana and service were all fantastic. Lots of opportunities for activities (swam with dolphins, etc.), easy access to many restaurant choices and facilities were great. (However, as with any tropical setting, insects can be a nuisance, but that is to be expected anywhere.) I would love to be able to go back every quarter for an escape! I will definitely be going at least once a year now. It's one of my new favorites and easy to get to from the US for even a quick weekend trip. (Off season travel there was great - hot morning-late afternoon where you get plently of sun; light evening rain showers cools it off for nighttime activities.)
“Beautiful!!”
AWESOME!!!!!
“Great choice for a relaxing break!”
Nice break from the stressful world, especially if you're looking for a non-commercial, laid back vacation. The hotel is a real gem - quality and service is excellent. Not really a place for children - which is great for those wanting to avoid them!
“One of the most wonderful resorts in Mexico”
We chose this property to celebrate our 25th wedding aniversary and couldn't have found a better place! Very accomodating in every way. The cooking class with chef Mario was the best. Learned a lot and had some wonderful authentic food. Next time we plan to stay in a suite for a longer period of time.
“Welcome To Paradise”
What I was looking for was a paradise like location, with beautiful property, instant beach access, several delicious dining options, a highly attentive staff, a gym, a business center so I could keep up on emails with loved ones, and an uber relaxing time. I got it at the Villa Del Sol in Zihua. Sitting under the shade structure (Palapa?) watching the ocean break on the shore just a few feet away, while pondering your next drink (I reccomend the VAMPIRO!) and your biggest decision is what lunch entree you'll have one of the attentive staff set up at a table behind your lounge chair eat while reading a favorite book or magazine. I cannot wait to go back. Highly reccomended.
“Bing and Diane”
We absolutely loved "The Tides". The service was impeccable. We have been to several of the best hotels in the Carribean and Mexico beach areas and this was the absolute best service we have ever experienced. All of the staff knew our names and were genuinely happy to see us every day. Once again, the service was perfect. This is what vacation is all about! Ok, one word, only, one word. Please replace the mattresses (my husband was fine with the mattress) and upgrade the linens. But, do NOT let that stop you from going to the Tides! We stayed in Beach Suite No. 6 and can't imagine a more perfect room, book that room if you can. You will love "the Tides"!
“Relaxing experience”
I was a little concerned that this hotel may not be an appropriate place to bring my wife and kids since I was told it is a romantic getaway. Upon arriving, I was pleasantly surprised that other families were staying as well. After some initial problems with roll away beds for the kids, the hotel was very accomodating. The rest of the stay was absolutely wonderful. The staff was superior and the rooms were extremely quiet. I would recommend highly.

Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico: On the Pacific Coast of Guerrero, Mexico, the city of Zihuatanejo has worked hard to retain its village look and feel. Many downtown streets are still paved with cobblestones, and zoning laws prohibit buildings over 4 stories. A brick-paved beachfront promenade runs along Playa La Madera and Playa Principal to the pier, and all beaches along the bay are safe for swimming.
