Great staff, comfortable, convenient, quiet

Posted 12-Apr-2014
Pros: Overall the hotel is a good blend of traditional style and modern facilities. Very pleasant breakfast room.
Cons: Nothing I can think of.
Location: Good, reasonably priced fish restaurant almost opposite. Short walk to Blue Mosque, Aghia Sohia, Topkapi Palace and sea front. Tram 5 mins. walk.
Mert is the most helpful hotel manager I've ever met - always on hand, offering complementary teas and drinks, full of info, nothing too much trouble - and Azize does lovely breakfasts, with different treats every day. The hotel is very handy for Sultanahmet (the old city) but being on a narrow side street, very quiet (tip - if arriving by taxi , have the phone number handy - the driver may not know the street or hotel, as its small and new). The rooms are not that big, but who goes to Istanbul to stay in a hotel room? - and the shower was very spacious and bathroom well-equipped. Large, comfortable bed. Spotlessly clean.

One of the best hotels we've ever stayed in

Posted 27-Mar-2014
Pros: everything
Cons: Nothing
Location: Too many to list - they all near by........great pity was, we left the camera at home!
We stayed for five nights in this fantastic hotel. I simply cannot fault it. The staff could not be more helpful. The décor of the rooms was way, way above anything we have ever experienced. We were lucky to have our room upgraded (it was our wedding anniversary), but quite honestly we would have been happy in any of the rooms. The breakfasts were absolutely excellent for a small hotel - for any hotel for that matter. It was near enough to all the tourist attractions, with just a few minute's walk, and the manager was happy to give advice about places to see (and not see). All in all one of our most enjoyable holidays

Great hotel, with a lot of character

We had a really great stay at the Sultan Tughra - it's a lovely hotel, ideally situated a few minutes walk from all the tourist sights around Sultanhamet. The decor is really special, and the personal attention paid by the staff was a really nice change from big chain hotels. The check-in/out times are actually much more flexible than advertised - as our room was available, we were allowed to check in early and check out late. The breakfast was very good, and we enjoyed hot drinks being available 24/7, as well as the offer of a glass of Turkish wine one evening. We'd happily stay here again.

Hotel staff do know what Customer Service means!

Posted 14-Jan-2014
Pros: Location, cleanliness, customer service
Cons: More diversity in breakfast offerings
Location: Close to the main sights in Sultanahmet.
Full disclosure: this is the very first review I write and I took the time to do it because this hotel and its staff are just superb. Well located hotel (Blue Mosque is a 5-minute walk), very clean, the breakfast bar offered delicious local food options and the room décor is just magnificent. The welcome gift added positive points to our stay. Mert, the General Manager, welcomed us on day one and made us feel right at home. Every request we had he had it covered with the utmost professional courtesy. Congratulations for this hidden jewel in Sultanahmet!

Phenomenal Service, good location

The hotel staff is first rate! Extremely friendly and helpful, willing to go out of their way to improve your stay in any way possible. Its a short walk to many main attractions in Istanbul. Its a little difficult to get to from the main roadways and some of the surrounding neighborhood is run down, but I personally had no issues in the neighborhood. The staff at this hotel alone would make me recommend it to anyone.

Fantastic service

The hotel was spotless, my room was great and included all toiletries. Shower was awesome! Location perfect, quiet but just five minute walk to the Blue Mosque, public transport etc. But I have to make a special mention for the staff - they were great. Really friendly and helpful. On my last day, my pick up was very early, and they had the full breakfast buffet laid out over an hour early for me. And then when my pre-paid taxi 'forgot' to pick me up for the airport, Mert was fantastic. He arranged for a passing shuttle to pick me up, and even walked me the ten minutes to where they would collect me, and waited to ensure everything was ok. Thanks Mert, because of you I did just make my flight! Istanbul was too big to see it all in 21/2 days, so I will be back, and I will definitely stay here next time.

Really helpful and friendly staff!

We really enjoyed our 4 nights stay in this hotel thanks, mostly, to the very kind and friendly staff. The manager Mert always has a smile on his face and makes you feel at home. As he said, "in this hotel we are all just a big family". The rest of the staff we met were also very friendly: the talkative night receptionist, the nice girl taking care of the breakfast (she cooks eggs to order in the morning) and the jolly housekeeper. The rooms, although small, are nicely decorated in traditional Turkish style (gold, red and glitter). Just to mention a couple of things that they could improve, I think they could add more light in the bathroom and some more TV channels in English; and maybe get rid of the funny looking collection of vinyls they have on display downstairs (there might be a reason for it to be there, but it doesn't match the decor at all -just a personal opinion-). Bear in mind that the hotel is located in some kind of backstreet and, although it's safe and near the main attractions, looks a little scruffy and can be hard to find at first. All in all, we were very happy we picked this hotel. Sure there are bigger and more modern hotels in Istanbul, but I doubt any hotel would have a team as pleasant and helpful as this one. Highly recommended!!

A decent small sized hotel. The room we were in was pretty compact but it was well serviced. The shower, Internet and breakfast were excellent. The young Manager, Mert was ever so helpful. The Ottoman decor with its over the bed mirror contributed to the hotel ambience. The 10 minute trek to the Blue Mosque and the surrounding areas was manageable despite the hilly terrain. The hotel is on a quiet alleyway so was very quiet at night for a good night sleep. The area was very safe. Worth the stay and keep this hotel on your list.
