not as good as on the photo
This is the worse hotel and it looks nothing like on the photo. I asked for a quite room as I am a light sleeper so they give me a room on the 3rd floor right below the restaurant. I could not sleep at night before someone moved tables and chair all night long. The room itself was very very small and not updated. There was an A/C but the smell was so bad so I kept just the window open. Also, the location is busy and anywhere you go, you need to go up to hill..

Loved the location; charming building, charming staff. A nice European-style breakfast, clean and quaint rooms, and the plethora of cafes streetside was wonderful!

Yakup king of the night and the guy on days didn’t get his name very polite and helpful to usc Overall brilliant hotel Great bed great shower good size rooms absolutely brilliant breakfast and breakfast staff Rooms very clean Little things hairdryer for wife not very good Abit noisey car horns 24/7 but that’s Istanbul And abit of a good bad seagulls at breakfast Don’t leave your plate outside or it will be gone But you can eat inside if you want and what comes with well fed birds is you know what hard to clean every time I suppose but breakfast staff did a sterling job

Good hotel for location and price. The "king" room, offered as an alternative to a twin for 2 people was not large and only had a standard double bed but otherwise comfortable.

Managed the basics, but little more.
The hotel is very simple. If all you need is a bed and shower, it's a good value. First the good – the bed was comfortable, the rainfall shower was nice, check-in and check-out was easy, the food at the rooftop breakfast was acceptable and the view of the Sea of Marmara was a lovely way to start the morning. The location was also fine. It's about a 10 minute uphill walk to the Grand Bazaar. Negatives – the room was very tight. We had to squeeze around furniture to get to the far side of the bed. While all of the rooms are non-smoking, we still woke up with our room smelling of cigarette smoke every morning. If you're very sensitive, steer clear. Maybe it was wafting down from smokers on the rooftop terrace? Windows open or closed and A/C on or off didn't seem to make any difference. The WiFi worked fine in the lobby, but was basically non-existent in our room. Staff was also a mixed bag, mostly they were very friendly, but one day, we were waiting for a tour pickup and our driver was a bit late and I asked the front desk if he would call and reconfirm our pickup time. His first response was to demand to know why I hadn't booked the tour through the hotel.

We had a nice stay and the rooms are relatively clean. The location is within 12 min walk to tourist areas. One thing to note is that the tram station is uphill so keep this in mind for older people who may have problems walking uphill for 5 min. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and the free breakfast had a good variety, the terrace dining area is very nice. Good value for what we paid.

This hotel is in really bad shape all the picture are photo shop and look nothing like like the pictures smell bad and old toilet in the room was completely loose room are not even half of the size they described in the information

Comfortable hotel in great location.
Everything within walking distance such as the Grand Bazaar, the Blue Mosque and the Cistern as well as many other places to visit. Huge range of choice of dinning close to the hotel. Hotel staff really helpful and friendly. Great breakfast and amazing views from the hotel terrace dinning area. I would definately stay at the hotel again.

Close to all the sights.
Hotel Amber is close to all the sight seeing sites. it is a good location and the staff are extremely helpful. Halil and Jakob in particular. Clean rooms and terrific breakfasts. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Poor quality hotel
Though location of the hotel is relatively close to historical sights, there is no honest way how it could get such high rates and comments. Booking and paying several rooms upfront 2 months, there were no available upon arrival. All rooms in a very poor condition (especially "family"), terrible views from the windows, lots of noise till late night. Breakfast was far from ideal, some food was not fresh. This is a max 2 star hotel. Very disappointed with the choice.

not the best choice for female business travelers
On this site, the hotel claims that the price for roundtrip transportation to Ataturk Airport is 35 EUR. After booking, I contacted the hotel by email to make arrangements, I did not receive a response. I made contact a second time by phone and was told that the roundtrip price was 70 EUR. I was disappointed by the dramatic price difference, but was told that nothing could be done because the price was pre-arranged with the transportation company. I would have appreciated some small gesture as an apology for the mistake. The overnight porter couldn't understand why a woman was traveling alone and asked me many questions. I'm certain that he meant no harm, but it was clear that my presence was strange in this hotel and I felt safer with my door bolted at night. There was a mix-up with my key card and it took several attempts on three different floors to find my room. The TV did not work and when I asked the overnight receptionist to have a look at it, he just told me to remind him later. After a long day, I called him again to order room service, but he informed me that I would need to go up to the restaurant on the terrace to place my order... not really room service. I would not recommend this hotel, particularly for female business travelers. Though the afternoon receptionist was very helpful (made very specific last-minute travel arrangements for myself and some clients), he was the only one who made an effort to make me feel more comfortable during my stay.

Perfect for visiting Istanbul
Although not in the trettiest part of town, its huge rooms, and closeness to everything are great, as is the enourmous selection of breakfast goods.

Very noisy hotel.
To some up briefly, the hotel was very noisy - we had noise coming from reception, communal areas, other rooms until 3am which is completely unacceptable. Worse night of sleep we've ever had in any hotel. Bathroom had a leak. Every time you used the shower, the bathroom floor would flood creating a hazard as well as a major inconvenience. This problem is unlikely to be new since the wooden floor in front bathroom has lifted up. Staff were not particularly friendly or accommodating even with simple procedures like checking in and out.

Worst night of sleep!!
We were advised by the manager on arrival that our room had been given to someone else and that we were to now stay in Best Western Empire Palace instead. We explained to him that we booked the Ambler hotel for its proximity to the Yeni Kapi Ferry Port as we had to catch a ferry at 7am the next morning. He responded by shrugging his shoulders, saying there was nothing else he could do. So we waited in the lounge for 1 hour for their transfer car. The hotel use a taxi driver that charges them slightly less for the journey so made us wait for this guy rather than call us a taxi that would come immediately. At the other hotel we noticed the bathroom had a leak so the floors were completely wet. There is no sound insulation in this hotel. We could hear the reception talking on the phone very loudly to a friend until 3am and general noise seemed to be coming from all directions. It was without doubt the worst night of sleep we've ever had and we were a complete mess the next day. We were promised a pre-packed breakfast as we had to check out earlier than we would have if we wasn't forced to change hotels but this never happened. In fact, the receptionist was very rude when we asked if our breakfast had been pre-packed and said that there would be nothing for at least another hour. When I noticed some buns had just been delivered I asked if I could take some but he sighed and said we could only take one each. So we paid for a room with breakfast but only got to take a bun.

Great Place!
This hotel is well looked after. My room was spacious and clean with lots of windows and a great layout. Staff were very helpful and the rooftop deck for breakfast has great views! It is close to all the main tourist attractions and everything is walkable. It is down the hill from the tram and the grand bazaar (if you have trouble with hills, you can take a taxi or select another hotel as it is a long hill but totally walkable for those without mobility issues).

Cozy Hotel for couples
A cozy hotel near Grand bazaar and Blue Mosque. The walk way to and from Hotel may be tiring. The hotel offers OK breakfast but lacks vegetarian item. We preferred this hotel for economic and tourist reasons.

In the heart of culture
This is a great hotel if you want to be close to all the tourist attractions which are all within walking distance. There are many restaurants behind the hotel. The room is clean but it is very small so only stay if you do not want to spend much time in the room. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Homely hotel
Having been advised that this was a hotel used by UK travel agents we decided to read up on this hotel and compare the price etc to others. The price we got was very good for 4 nights and it seemed to be very close to the major sights. The only problem it can cause is if you are not used to climbing rather large hills as you need to do this to get to the main street, although there is an option which we found on last full day. The staff cannot be more helpful and it was nice that we knew each and every one of them by the second day and it certainly has a very homely feel as it is so compact. Breakfast was included in our price and it was more than sufficient with lots of choice.

HOTEL AMBER - IN THE OLD PART OF CITY
THE HOTEL IS PLEASANTLY LOCATED ON A COBBLED ROAD, WHICH RUNS EAST WEST THROUGH THE CITY. IT IS LOCATED IN THE DISTRICT FAMOUS FOR ITS FISH RESTAURANTS. THE HOTEL IS QUIET AND HAS A SMALL BREAKFAST ROOM ON THE ROOF WHERE BREAKFAST IS TAKEN. NO LUNCH MEALS OR DINNER ARE AVAILABLE. THE STAFF ARE EXTREMELY FRIENDLY AND MAKE YOU VERY WELCOME. TRIPS CAN BE ARRANGED AT RECEPTION AND A LIST OF VARIOUS OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE BY BUS OR BY BOAT TO THE RIVERS OR NEIGHBORING ISLANDS. TAXI SERVICES CAN ALSO BE ARRANGED AT THE HOTEL.

Heart of the Action
Beautiful hotel with courteous staff, very accomodating! The only watch out: the Beyazit Metro Stop is at the top of a fairly steep hill which can be difficult with luggage. Great value for the money!

nice hotel, location could be better.
Staff was very helpful and inviting. nice clean room and washroom with all facilities and utilities. Just the walk to the main city center was like 10 mins uphill. other than that everything was great.

Great Stay
Nice boutique style hotel, good value for money. Excellent location in the heart of the old city. Breakfast was a bit boring if you're staying more than a couple of days although, again, was good value for money. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are tight but very comfortable with excellent comfortable beds and good quality bathrooms.

Should not be open to guests while being renovated
We arrived to find the lift does not always operate, the air conditioning was broken (and had been for several days), workmen were all over the place so there were plaster dust, paint fumes and broken glass as windows were being replaced. Had I not prepaid, I would not have stayed in those conditions. That said, the staff was very courteous and did not charge us for several meals. A lovely plate of fresh fruit was brought to our room after the air conditioning was finally working. All the food was excellent and we were within easy walking distance of cafes and a wonderful Turkish bathhouse. Once all the renovations are complete, it should be a lovely facility. European hotel hair dryers are the worst! This one overheated frequently and cut out, plus the on switch has to be continually depressed so it is difficult to use. The mini fridge in the room was not cool, let alone cold. Ice is hard to come by.

Great Istanbul Hotel
We enjoyed our stay at Amber Hotel. The location was convenient to major attractions, service was great and the room comfortable and clean. The breakfast buffet had variety and a good view on top of the hotel. I would stay here again. Some may find the room a little small and the walk to the tram a little far but then if you want a closer similar hotel the price goes up significantly.
