“Nice Hotel with lots of Character”

The room was small, reminded me of older hotels I frequented in New York City in the 70's. The room was clean and the bathroom adequate. The common areas were well maintained. Lots of dark wood, marble and tile. Definitely a step back in time. If you are on a limited budget, appreciate an establishment's history and character, this is the place for you.

“Pretty, but lacking amenities”

Our hotel room was very small, musty and no counter space in bathroom. We asked for an upgrade and they were very accommodating. It would be nice if the hotel offered a continental breakfast, complimentary coffee in the lobby, fridge and microwave in their rooms. Most hotels offer these types of services. Staff was pleasant but not always prompt. We had not hot water one morning and the tub drain was broken. So to take a bath one had to sit in the tub and continuously run the water to keep enough water in to take a bath. Problem was never completely resolved. Food was very good. The hotel has a wonderful atmosphere, and is centrally located. However, our wireless computers would not connect. The view looking over the monument was awesome. I would consider staying there again, if some of our suggestions were implemented.

“Not Quite a Hotel”

The Columbia Club is a former private club that decided to rent hotel rooms to the general public to make money during the recession. They haven't quite figured out how to provide service to a hotel guest vs. a club member. Staff members were rude when asked basic questions, such as "Where is your business center?" and one actually said, "You should know that!" when I asked about times that breakfast would be available. The rooms are small, which is something I expect in other cities, but not in Indianapolis. The best thing that this hotel has going for it is location -- certainly not the service.

“Not Impressed”

This hotel speaks of having a dress code and an upscale feel, but it is not. Firstly, our room was not available on time. It was about 1 hour late and there were other guest in the same situation. They said the hotel was full, but I hardly saw any significant guest activity and so I do not believe that was the case. The valets and desk workers were dressed but their clothes did not fit or were no well kept. The lighting was dark. The lobby area has really nice leather chairs to relax on. The room has an old feel to it. The TV was a 1980s style CRT and the screen was fuzzy. At one time it had vertical hold issues and so we turned if off and just watched using out laptop. The shower was small and hard to maneuver in. There was nothing luxury about the hotel, and definitely nothing that should warrant the exclusivity air that they have because it is associated with a private club. Also, they don't have any transportation services to an from the airport and the taxi system in Indy is kinda scarce. There are much better places to stay.

“Downtown stay in Indy”

The hotel is quaint and historic so it is lacking in services compared to modern hotels. The stay was overpriced for the services provided, but the location is good and the staff are pleasant and helpful.

“Unimpressive”

Small room, dated decor. Unwelcoming front desk staff. Not worth the rate.

“Very old”

Great location but very old and not up to the mark for what is supposed to be a prestigious club.

“Disappointed in the room”

This Hotel is no doubt a very nice place, it has all the character that you would expect from a building this old. The meal was perfect in the lounge,, the drinks were great but I was very disappointed in the clenliness of the room. If I would have noticed the issues when I first arrived in the room I would have asked to be moved to another. The bathroom floor had not been cleaned, there was dental floss laying in the corner and pieces of what looked like plaster on the floor. The air in the room was extremely dry, like most hotels are. All in all I would go back only for the simple reason of the location and the character of the building.
