"Good - But Needs Some Revamping"
I have stayed at the Hyatt Shatin several times over the past several years. I like the hotel overall. If you don't mind taking the subway/metro/MTR for 15 minutes everyday to get to Kowloon Tong/Festival Walk area, then the location is suitable for you. I like the area, nice hills, quiet. It's suitable for resting and sleeping. Years ago, the hotel was excellent and new. That's why I keep going back. But over the years, the hotel rooms have gradually fallen into a bit of disrepair. There are scuff marks on the walls, and the carpets are dirty in parts, etc. The hotel rooms are really starting to show their age. I think this would not be too difficult for the hotel to fix. Refurbish some things, change the carpets, new wallpaper, etc, on the walls. It won't quite be as good as new, but it will be very good again. I hope that the hotel will do that.
The front desk staff are always friendly and excellent. This time the lady at the front desk (I've forgotten her name) spoke English well and was smiling and friendly.
One of the mornings, though, I left the room at about 9:30am, and went back at 4pm to take a few minutes rest... they had only arrived at our room at that time to clean it. Which is not a huge problem, but we expected by 4pm that the room would have been cleaned already. We asked them to come back in an hour, which they did.
