"A wonderful surprise"
If you want serenity, this is the place. The house is on the top of the hill overlooking Hilo. There are only 4 rooms for rent. We knew other people were staying there but we never heard anyone. The room was clean & the bathroom had been recently updated. We will definitely stay here again.

"Older hotel in new condition"
We were staying on the other side of the island but wanted to stay one night closer to the volcanoes. We booked our room but when we drove up I thought "Oh no! It was an older hotel in only who knows what condition." I found out what condition after we checked in and went to our rooms. It is an older hotel in brand new condition! Everything was in excellent condition. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the staff friendly and helpful. It was a pleasure staying there.

"Comfort"
We had made arrangements at another location but were very unsatisfied so went back to where we had stayed before at Hilo Hawaiian and had a very good stay. When I checked in I was given a room with 2 separate beds but had requested a king size bed. Calling down to the desk they had a nice king size bed room available and we had a great stay there. It was very comfortable and we were grateful for the a/c.

"Old Hawaii at its best"
If you're looking for a typical post-card tourist trip to Hawaii, stay in Kona. Uncle Billy's Hilo embodies the Hawaii of yesteryear. If you want to experience what Hawaii was like before radical over development started destroying the islands, this is a great place to be.

"A hidden gem"
Wonderful place off the beaten path. Too get there you drive a one lane road though a rain forest like gulch. Although, the house is off the grid, you are not roughing it. They just use solar energy. I only stayed one night but if I stay on the Hilo side again for 1 day or a week, this is the first place I'll consider. A terror value. The breakfast is good, too!

"Thanksgiving 2014 at Kulaniapia"
This Inn has it all. A beautiful drive thru local farms to get there, approx 15 min. From Hilo. A magnificent property with a waterfall, which lulls you to sleep. The inn is organized for people who love B & B's, but cherish their privacy. Our room had everything we wanted, king bed, tv,Internet, and even a welcoming small basket of fruit and macadamia nuts. The property has two trails which you can use and you can go for a swim in the pond at the base of the falls. Finally, the breakfast is the best we had on the island. It has just about everything you may want to eat I should also add that the hosts invited all their guests to join their friends and family, free of charge for Thanksgiving dinner. We did not know this when we booked. It was a first for them, and we could all see all the work required to pull this off. It was a total success and the food was so delicious. Thank you for such a generous offer.

"A Journey into an Artist's Private Retreat"
For the Traveler who is looking for privacy, a location off the beaten track, and surrounded by nature. Artistically furnished and designed. Well-priced. Lots of space for this one-bedroom guest cottage. A donkey (fenced in), rabbits (with a large enclosed habitat) and a hen (who has her run of the place and is tame) provide company. A continental breakfast is also provided, a plus. An experience unlike any other. Make sure to arrive during the day (i.e. while the sun provides light) so that you can find this place, as it is located on a gravel road with no lighting. Truly rustic!

"Best B&B that I've stayed."
Mary and Pat are excellent hosts. The room has every little detail: fridge, TV, library, warm shower with handle, plenty of towels, coffee maker and tea and even cookies, sofa, microwave oven, torchlights, earplugs, hairdryer, extra pillows and blankets, tissue box, plenty of hangers which makes our stay very pleasant. Breakfasts are excellent with fresh fruits and the hot meals change each day. Sitting on the lanai of this B&B with the sound of clapping waves is a perfect location for your vacation or stay. Nearby, on Sundays there is a great farmers' market. We also enjoyed the warm volcanic pool not too far away.
