"RealIy. . . I 'd Like to Live This Way Forever."
This hotel was made for me. The easy elegance of this place is just how I imagine heaven would be. Great design; hip, but not trying too hard to please. My kind of place. It rated an easy Five Stars, but there was a down-side. Our "Non-smoking" room, due to an unsympathetic A/C system, I suppose, smelled like a bar at 3am. Maybe I'm just getting soft & pampered. . . or maybe Hyatt could segregate the Smokers from the Non-smokers a bit better??? And, the view from our window was un-remarkable. I know I'm in Kyoto, but the view could have been Hoboken or Desmoine; not living up to the grace and comfort of rest of the place. I'd suggest a little Zen garden something or a grove of bamboo. You know, that's why we come to Kyoto. The food in the hotel restaurants was, mostly, excellent and the breakfast buffet was as good as you have any right to expect. The staff was aggressively wonderful. And, then, there's the bathroom. . . Be informed: your bathroom probably won't have a lock on it. In fact it won't even have a DOOR. Some people (like our teenage daughter), will find this alarming. Personally, I loved it: a smart & playful use of space and frosted glass. Top fixtures & surfaces, too. Does one need more? Although not centrally-located, the Hyatt is next door to Sanjusangen-do, which is worthy of your close attention, and across the street from the National Museum (unfortunately closed for renovations until September 13, 2014).

"Well worth it!"
We have enjoyed our stay at Westin Miyako Kyoto. Services are excellent. Our room was very comfortable. Clean pajamas that are provided on a daily basis is for me above and beyond for the price. Location is not a close proximity from the Kyoto main train station but the shuttle that runs frequently (every 30 minutes) is well worth it. Hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood close to some very nice temples.

"Great hotel - close to main area"
Stayed here about seven months ago and never wrote a review. We loved this small hotel. We were a family of four and stayed in 2 rooms. It was walking distance to all of the restaurants and nightlife. The staff were very kind and accommodating. As most rooms in Japan, room was small but very clean. Will definitely stay again! Arigato!

"Excellent, great stay"
Lovely little ryokan in a traditional street. Staff very attentive and friendly, food excellent, nice (but small) onsen. Not particularly central, but a pleasant walk up the river to Gion and downtown. Wonderful experience of proper Japanese hospitality

"Service is good"
Hotel is old and quite worn around the edges, with old fashioned rooms and hard, uncomfortable beds. Location is ok (it overlooks one of Kyoto's many temples) but a bit of a hike from all metro stations (incl. Kyoto Station) and Gion. Service was good (to be expected in Japan).

"Fabulous hotel in a great location"
It was a little tricky to find, but we asked the staff at the nearby Family Mart and then it was easy. Great location in a quiet street, walking distance to many sights, but also very close to the subway. Convenience stores are close, for items that can be heated in the microwave, situated in a communal dining area. Very friendly staff - and very helpful.

    Higashiyama Hotels Guide

The shuffling of Geisha echoes in this quiet ward between the Kamo River and leafy Higashiyama Mountains. Arthur Golden's Memoirs of a Geisha takes place here in the Gion entertainment district. Visit during July for the Gion Festival. To the east, the high wooden stage of the Kyomizu temple floats above the canopy while traditional shops line the stone steps of Ninzaka and Sannzaka avenues below.
