"Excellent hotel at a good price."
We (my wife and I) would recommend this moderate sized hotel for people who want somewhere convienient to stay in Kyoto which is very reasonably priced. The hotel room we had was good and large enough, and reasonably quiet given we were on a main road. It's not a prestige hotel and doesn't pretend to be, but is excellent by basic 3 star critetia. Breakfasts are basic but inexpensive. The rooms are spotless and are well attended to by cleaning staff. For the price it would be difficult to find a better hotel in such a good position, close to Sanjo Keihan station (underground and main line) and a number of bus stops at the corner of Sanjo dori and Kawabata dori. It is on the edge of the Gion district, Kyoto downtown and a moderate walk or short busride to Higashiyama.

"Very nice ryokan"
Stayed for three nights during our honeymoon and enjoyed every minute of it. The service is amazing and the food was authentic and just has to be experienced to really soak up the Japanese culture.

"Service is good"
Hotel is old and quite worn around the edges, with old fashioned rooms and hard, uncomfortable beds. Location is ok (it overlooks one of Kyoto's many temples) but a bit of a hike from all metro stations (incl. Kyoto Station) and Gion. Service was good (to be expected in Japan).

"Fabulous hotel in a great location"
It was a little tricky to find, but we asked the staff at the nearby Family Mart and then it was easy. Great location in a quiet street, walking distance to many sights, but also very close to the subway. Convenience stores are close, for items that can be heated in the microwave, situated in a communal dining area. Very friendly staff - and very helpful.

"Good location and features"
Really like their large public bath/sauna. Great after a long day of sightseeing. The double stream of water that drops from the ceiling massages the back, shoulder, or head area like no other! Super close to the bus stop and the huge amount of sights to visit on the East side of Kyoto. All of Kyoto is really easy to access with the 500 yen all day bus pass. Clean, large tatami room. Comfy futons. Lots of teenagers/charter buses. But surprisingly quiet after about 9pm in our room. Wish wifi was in our room instead of just the large room off of the lobby. Tons of vending machines throughout. Huge souvenir shop with a nice selection of goodies. Extensive breakfast buffet which you can choose to add to your room charge. Very filling and convenient, but not necessary since there are so many food choices throughout Kyoto. Have stayed several times before and will keep coming back. Oh, and go to Ohara - it's amazing!

"Japanese Ryokan"
Excellent location on a pleasant walking street. Our room had a small balcony with tea and coffee making facilities. bar fridge and hand basin. There was never a problem to use the shared bathroom facilities. The owners speak almost no English but seemed to communicate easily. There are plenty of english maps for the walking tours and buses to Kyoto station are just a block away A nearby shopping street packed with locals was a fun way to spend Saturday afternoon. There is a small garden at the entrance to the building and a park on the other side of the street .I would most definitely recommend this Ryokan

    Higashiyama Hotels Guide

The shuffling of Geisha echoes in this quiet ward between the Kamo River and leafy Higashiyama Mountains. Arthur Golden's Memoirs of a Geisha takes place here in the Gion entertainment district. Visit during July for the Gion Festival. To the east, the high wooden stage of the Kyomizu temple floats above the canopy while traditional shops line the stone steps of Ninzaka and Sannzaka avenues below.
