“comfortable”
the bed and breakfast experience was nice. the sharing of small refrigerators with the other guest, however was not. i guess they felt free to take what was not theirs even though it was clearly labled with our name. my only suggestion would be to install small refrigerators into each room. otherwise a very enjoyable stay in a beautiful location and easy to find.
“Great Value in an Awesome Location”
We arrived late but found an envelope waiting for us that had detailed instructions for getting to our room. The office was a little difficult to find, and is located right at the sign that says "Chateau Kilauea." The room was clean, as was the rest of the house. Sharing a bathroom with the other guests was only troubling one night when it seemed everyone wanted to use it at once, but otherwise we had no trouble. There was a TV in the room with full cable, and the bathroom was well-equipped with soap, shampoo, and towels. The water was a little cold at first, but warmed up quite nicely when given sufficient time. There was a microwave in the common area along with some board games and books for entertainment. The location of the residence is very convenient when exploring Hawaii Volcanoes National Park - it was only a 10 minute drive to the park. There are not many eating options in the town of Volcano, and all are located on one main road. Many of these closed at 9:00 PM, which was a little inconvenient. All in all, the Volcano Hale is a great deal for the money, as long as you don't mind sharing a bathroom with other guests. The place is clean, comfortable, and in a great location. I would definitely stay here again.
“Great Budget Lodging”
This is a house located on a mostly residential street. The main office (address provided) where you check in is located about 2 blocks away. It's a house that has 3 stories, probably 5 private bedrooms or so, and 2 shared bathrooms. There is a full kitchen and the shared living room/dining room area is huge. The place was very clean. Towels and linens are included. If you check in after hours (6 or 7pm, don't remember), they just leave an envelope with the key and directions for you at the main office and you have to check in the next day. Note that the office doesn't open until 7am, so if you check in late and plan on leaving very early the next morning, you do need to fill out paperwork after 7am. The office area also has a very nice breakfast on surprisingly nice china for $6 a person.
“Great place to visit the park”
We were a family traveling with a newborn. The place was really nice for families. It is great if you want to cook.
“Nice place to stay.”
We enjoyed our stay at Volcano Hale. We were the only guests at the time so it was probably better than usual in not having to share a bath and being very quiet and private. That being said I think it would be a nice stay even if more occupied. It is convenient to the Park, has a good kitchen, and internet access available. We highly recommend Volcano Hale.
“Great place for the $$”
If you are traveling on a budget, I would definitely recommend the Volcano Hale. Formerly a bed & breakfast, this comfortable abode has cozy bedrooms with shared bathrooms, full kitchen and dining area, and a lounge complete with a fireplace, TV, board games and books. There is no TV in the bedroom. The bathrooms were cleaned daily, so no concerns about cleanliness unless you were the last one using it for the day. And although the bedroom was small, I wasn't visiting volcano to sleep or hang out in a hotel. I was there to visit the active volcano!
“We'll go there next time”
it is convenient. We will recommend this hotel to our friends.
“Volcano Hale”
Great proximity to the National Park and adequate for a place just to land after a long day of hiking.... you have to share the bathrooms and kitchen facilities but otherwise the rooms are acceptable. It got kinda of a quaint feel to it. I might be more inclined to fork out a few extra bucks next time and stay at the main lodge where the reception is
“a real getaway”
While it's a 30 minute drive into Hilo, and 2 hours into Kailua-Kona, this "hotel" offered us the perfect getaway. There was no traffic to fight, no tourist traps to avoid. We simply got a quiet, comfortable nights sleep which allowed us to be rested for our treks back and forth into the national park. Don't expect anything fancy, but you won't pay for it either. It was similar to being at home and that was fantastic for a vacation.
“Old but nice house”
Volcano Hale is 1912 house. Very pretty, with all accomodations (2 bathrooms, kitchen, living-room) for all of 6 rooms. Then you're alone, that's the complete silence. But if you're staying with noisy people, it could be the hell. We can hear everything through the wall! But I recommend it anyway.
