Property Amenities

Within an eight-minute drive of Kailua-Kona and the shops and golf courses of Keauhou, the hotel is adjacent to Kahaluu Beach, which provides some of the best snorkeling on the island. The resort's 10 oceanfront acres were once home to an ancient Hawaiian community, and foundations of two temples, a canoe landing, and petroglyphs remain on the property.

Guests can watch the sunset from a terrace bar suspended over tide pools that shelter reef fish and sea turtles. The resort's spa and salon provides hair care, massage therapy, aromatherapy, and skin-care treatments (surcharge). A freeform outdoor pool has an adjacent children's pool, and guests can work out in a fitness center or play tennis on one of six courts.

The hotel hugs Kahaluu Beach, a snorkeling beach that is frequented by the green sea turtles that feed in the 10-acre hotel's tide pools. Six tennis courts are set amid tropical gardens and grassy lawns with hammocks. A health spa, outdoor freeform pool, and fitness center are also on site.

One mile from the hotel, Kona Country Club features two 18-hole golf courses, a driving range, chipping and putting practice greens, and a clubhouse with a pro shop and restaurant. “Great deal if you can get it for the right price.”

We chose this hotel because of the very attractive deals they offered at the time (January, 2010), and because of the hotel's location right on the water. This is not a super luxury resort - however, it is a very comfortable 3 1/2 star hotel/resort and with an extremely cheerful, friendly and helpful staff, and an absolutely fantastic location together with an ambience that's truly Hawai'ian. I was informed that the hotel was built in the 1970's but we found it very well maintained. The bar is located over the water and serves decent light food at very reasonable prices, and happy-hour drinks at near half price. The free daily buffet breakfast was fine, and the ever-upbeat ladies cleaning the tables, set a wonderful stage for still another great day. We would return to this hotel in a minute if we again were offered a good deal. This was my 18th trip to Hawai'i, and my wife and I stayed here this time for 15 nights.

“Perfect for Us”

What a great experience. We went for the snorkling. We could not have picked a better place on the island to stay. Not only could we walk straight from our room out to snorkle, but they upgraded us to a full ocean view (without us asking) and I could sit on our balcony and watch my husband and daughter snorkle below me. The breakfast was nice, although we stayed for 10 days and it was repetitive. It was nice to have the free cultural activities. We participated in the lei making and the ukulele lessons. Thank you so much for the great vacation!

“Better than Expected”

This was a great hotel for the price. Continental breakfast was good everyday and the tidal pools were neat. The bar over the tidal pools was good too. We stayed on the second floor and didn't have any problem with noise. I think the hammock on the lawn overlooking the ocean were the best part. Free Internet too!

“Very impressed!!”

I was very pleased with the hotel and everything about my experience. The ambience at the hotel is beautiful and I was very impressed with the history surrounding the area. I had a deluxe ocean front room and was fortunate enough to be put in a corner room which enabled me to have two distinct views of the ocean and the surroundings.

“Outrigger”

i found this hotel to be an extremly pleasurable place. the grounds are spectacular, food delicious, rooms were spacious and clean. Service people were friendly and responsive. Location is convienent to Kona, but away from the tourist hussle and bussle. Certainly would return.

“Kona- will stay there again.”

Beautiful location, large room, wonderful breakfast buffet - the best hotel we stayed in during our Hawaii trip. Saturday night they had a prime rib/crab legs dinner buffet at a very reasonable price for Hawaii. It was delicious and the view was beautiful from the dining area. There were also wonderful people at the Expedia desk in the hotel that were very helpful in the planning of our excursions.

“Best Kona hotel for snorkelling”

The Outrigger is a great medium quality hotel, which has a fantastic location, right next to one of the best snorkelling beaches, that can get you in the coral without a boat. We got an upgrade to an oceanview room and had a super view of the ocean, and a balcony to watch the sun set. The room was well-maintained and clean. We did not use a lot of the facilites. The bar area is great, with a perfect iew of the sea, and of fish in the pool below. You can see eels and turtles right from the sitting area. The food is okish, but the drinks are good. The hotel offers free island orientation that is useful. Pretty useful on a first visit to Big Island. The Expedia desk that runs this, also offers advice and booking on all sorts of tours. The guys know their stuff and it is a good way to book things. We did book trips via the web too. Be careful about the timeshare $100 discount... The hotel parking is $7 per day or $10 valet. This seems in line with other hotels. The free internet is worth having and if you take a laptop and an internet phone you can call home for free or next to nothing.

Very pleasant hotel; full breakfast buffet, pool, snorkeling nearby. You can sit at the bar and watch turtles and eels frolic in the tide pools. Get a deluxe ocean view room if you can; this looks out over the tide pools. The ocean view rooms look at the ocean over the expanse of restaurant roof. Well maintained grounds, friendly staff. Farmer's Market (pricey) appears on the grounds on Wednesdays. About four miles from town on Alii Drive.

“Fantabulous!”

The hotel is excellenty located right on the Ocean. We had an ocean front room which was in the second floor above the hotel lounge and got the best view ever! We got to watch many colorful underwater creatures from the balcony of our room also had the opportunity to experience the spectacular sunset. Last but not the least, the complimentary breakfast was an excellent addition. Overall, LOVED IT!

“Awesome hotel and location! No hot tub...”

My husband and I stayed at the Keauhou Beach Resort (an Outrigger hotel) for 4 nights and loved it! The location was perfect for us – on a quiet bay away from the crowds, but still close enough to Kailua-Kona to go there for dinner or a grocery/drug store run. We didn’t take advantage of the free hotel shuttle, because we had a rental car. Hotel parking was a great deal at only $7 per day. Our 'Partial Ocean View' room was on the 7th floor, with a super comfy king size bed and a beautiful view from the balcony. The rate included free wired Internet and a buffet breakfast, which was good except for the watered-down juices. The waterfront bar had yummy food, delicious drinks, and live music performed by local artists.We didn’t use the pool and were disappointed that there was no hot tub. The concierge, an Expedia local expert, gave a great orientation and helped us book activities. The SeaQuest raft snorkel trip with Mary and Josh was a blast. We saw spinner dolphins and whales on the ride out, and lots of reef fish and a turtle at the snorkel spots. Green turtles can also be seen at Keauhou Bay by the hotel when the water is calm enough for snorkeling. We would certainly stay at this hotel again and recommend it to all our friends!
