“Great Location”

Loved our room. With the sliding door open we could hear the fabulous crashing of the waves on the shore, with it closed...peace and quiet. The condo was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The condo is also located near some of the best snorkeling. The lanai outside our room was wonderful...we had almost all our meals there. Our unit was recently remodeled and it showed. New kitchen, floors, and bathrooms. Having a washer/dryer was also a huge bonus--less to pack. We will be back with our boys next time. Our stay at the condo was one of the most relaxing vacations we have ever had on the Big Island!

“Would definitely recommend this resort.”

Everyone was pleasant and very accommodating. Housekeeping was outstanding. View of the ocean was spectacular. We stayed in one of the newly remodeled 2-bedroom suites so I cannot comment on the other rooms. However, my impression is that all the rooms will eventually be remodeled. We did look at one of the 1-bedroom suites and it seemed quite spacious and very much like the 2-bedroom suite we occupied.

“Loved Our Condo by the Sea”

I made all the arrangements with no knowlege other than the virtual tour etc. The package deal was such a great price, I was apprehensive as to what the resort condos would be like in reality. We were SO thrilled when we walked through the door! Clean, comfortable, and nicely furnished. We had ocean-front and a spectacular view. Also, this is a non-smoking resort, which we loved! There is a little tented area with two chairs under it tucked in at the side of the grounds for anyone who wants to smoke. I never got a whiff of any during our stay. We will stay at the Kona By The Sea again. Love Love Loved it.

“Would love to stay there again”

The location was perfect for all that I wanted to do. The room was clean and the view was spectacular! Loved sitting on the balcony and having breakfast, while watching the waves crash on the lava below. Sitting on the little sandy beach in the evening, with a glass of wine, and listening to the ocean, was heaven. All in all, it was a great experience, and I would love to go back, and stay there again.

“Living the Dream”

An absolutely amazing experience! The complex was well maintained and grounds manicured beautifully. I stayed in a 1 bdrm condo that was updated with granite and tile. It was just lovely, with a view to die for. The kitchen was well stocked with all the appliances and utensils you would ever need, from cheese slicer to rice cooker. Traveling alone, this was the perfect spot for rest and relaxation. Not alot of children, primarily couples. Since there is limited access to the ocean, from the complex grounds, if you want to swim, or snorkel, you would need to drive or walk a short distance to a public beach. Shopping and restaurants all also close by. I highly recommend this complex and look forward to returning soon.

“All Good. Can't wait to do it again.”

Loved it! Been to Aston Maui Kanapalii twice and this being our first time to the Big Island we chose Kona by the Sea because it was Aston. It was all good. The Maui Aston is a bigger property and felt more like a resort. Kona Aston feels more homey. Maui seemed newer, had a restaurant, a bar at the pool and a natural beach. Kona does not have a bar or restaurant and has a lava shoreline (very few places on Kona have natural sand beach.) But Kona Aston does have a nice sandy area between the pool and lava with umbrellas and chairs. We thought it was so special to have a "lava beach." Where in the world would you have such thing? Even without bar and restaurant, we did not feel deprived. I enjoyed gas grilling at the pool and cooking in the condo and dining on our balcony. The view is fantasic from unit 123. I think just about every room has a great view. Folks congregate shore-side late afternoon to watch the sun go down. You can make good photos from here. The staff was very helpful and accomodating. The unit was very clean and everything worked. Ours was a little dated but fine. Immaculate landscaping. Clean pool. There are 3 clean gas grills. 3 miles to a full grocery store though. It's quiet on site but you are ~1.5 miles from the center of Kona and ~1 mile from a good body surfing beach. If you can't relax and enjoy this place, you don't need to come to the Big Island.

“Peaceful and relaxing”

Clean, quiet, & all the comforts of home. The room was extremely clean, the appliances & electronic were fairly new and all worked, and the view was awesome. Four of us stayed in a 2 bedroom unit for 8 days. It was large enough that we could all have our own space yet could all be together very comfortably. Swim at the pool or lounge on the sand by the ocean but a good beach is down the road. The only negative was they were remodeling the unit next door, so for a couple of days it was noisy during the daytime, but we were out mostly anyway.

“Best Value for the money”

7/10/09 I just returned from the trip and felt compelled to write my opinion. Everything was top notch during my stay. Absolutely fabulous frontdesk staff with a combination of professional and typical folsky hawaiian style. very genuine and simple. Loved the new kitchen and laundry appliances. Great location for avid snorklers. 2 great beaches within ten mile radius for snorkling. One thing, if you want privacy then pay the extra for a beachfront condo as others are not as private. I m sure one can find more lavish and stylish places to stay on the island, but the value here cannot be matched if you are not picky on little things and don't care about being pampered as you would on expensive resorts. If you want a nice clean place with a great view and awesome location, and of course good service then this is it. Things that may bother some, but not me are 1. Coffee is complimentry on your 1st day only, so just go to Walmart and buy a great local Kona to brew for the rest of the days. 2. Toilet is slow to flush for some reason, BUT it does it's job. 3. The mattress on our bed was just ok for comfort, but then again when have we experienced a tempur-pedic type comfort in a hotel. 4. Internet connection is not free. I paid $40 for one week. you can get it for $10 a day if you're staying for less than 4 days. I m a frequent traveler, and this place get's an A+ for the value, location and friendliness.

“It was a wonderful condo”

My wife and I enjoyed our stay very much. Our room had a spectacular ocean view, and the roar of the ocean waves will linger in our minds forever. It was our best vacation.

“Definitely recommend!”

The 2 bdrm ocean front was exactly as depicted in the pictures on expedia; Spacious, comfortable, and breathtaking view.
