“Close to all the action”
We were a group of 8 arriving VIA RAIL from Montreal. We stepped off the train and into the hotel. Our rooms were very nice, great breakfast at the “elements” restaurant. Centrally located near the waterfront.
“Not what I expected from a Westin”
I got a really good deal on this hotel so that was a plus. We had to change room after the first night as there was a very strong musky smell in our. The new room was a little better. I believe the issue was dirty shower curtains. The rooms are run down. I asked about parking and was directed to the $18/night lot. Meanwhile there is a large, free paring lit just next door. The hotel is a little out of the way, but still within walking distance of all attractions. Next time I will stay somewhere else, even if I have to spend a few extra dollars.
“Maybe we stayed at a bad time......”
Perhaps it was an anomoly, but a number of weary travelers waited a very long time to check into our rooms when we arrived at the Westin Nova Scotian last weekend. Someof us waited upwards of 2 - 3 hours. When we checked with the front deskt about he status of the room, we were repeatedly told that the "room had unfortunately not been cleaned yet.." While the couches in the lobby were comfortable enough, they quickly became crowded with cranky patrons. Management either needs to add to the housekeeping staff or re-train them of cleaning quickly. I felt sorry for the front desk staff, who clearly were embarrassed that they were not able to provide service of which to be proud. To add insult to injury, the hotel restaurant is currenly being renovated, which left us only the option to dine in the lounge. Unfortunately, anyone under the legal age could not sit in the lounge after 9pm, even if dinner was ordered well before that time. Our family dining experience--our youngest is 16--was somewhat limited for that reason--no worries, we opted for room service. Sad to say it took 3 tries to get the order right. The hotel room provided more than enough space for a family of 4. The waterfront is a bit of a hike from the hotel, so anyone with walking issues should beware. However, we loved the exercise and particularly enjoyed the south end neighborhood. In all, the hotel tried hard--but for us, failed. Were we to return, we would stay at another hotel....
“Good Location, Very Comfortable”
Visited Halifax with my daughter to look at NSCAD and find housing for her. The location was terrific and if you are on the right side of the hotel the views can be great. The town is not all that big and you can walk to most of the downtown area with little difficulty. The place is clean, comfortable and well run.
“AWESOME!”
Great Location, Right next to the Farmer's Market, a Grocery store and liquor store. Room was very big and fancy. Flat screen tv and a fully stocked fridge in the room. Very comfortable roll-away bed.
“small room”
not very clean room
“Access to Halifax”
We really enjoyed the hotel. The costs of things was a bit on the high side but we were able to access so many things from this location that it made up for it. The hotel staff was extremely helpful and professional. The beds were extremely comfortable. It was just a hop, skip, and a jump to the Boardwalk. Lots of restaurants nearby. We were very pleased!
“Convenient in Halifax”
This hotel is located within walking distance of Pier 21, the Seaport Market, & great restaurants. Its only a short cab ride to the Metro Centre. There is free parking on the adjacent streets after 6pm and all weekend. sure beats $18.00/night. The restaurant is closed for repairs until Sept. 2011 but the lounge can accomodate meals.
“Old School First Class for the right $$”
Connected to the train station and a 10 walk to the heart of the waterfront. Great hotel that seems to incorporate the appropriate discount for not being right in the heart of it all. Majestic charm of an older property with excellent updates to keep it a modern Westin.
“Halifax”
Great location. Very helpful staff especially the Concierage. Overall great value. I Love Atlantic Canada and the people!
