“Fun”
Hotel accomodation was very comfortable. The beach was great, nice clear water.
“Wonderful Accomodations”
The Gem is as the name suggests, "a gem of a resort". The staff were always warm and extremely helpful. Very clean rooms and the restaurant offered a delicious menu. The beach was heavenly, we can't wait to return.
“fantastic setting”
Firstly the setting of the hotel is marvellous - it is in a quiet bay where you have the beach virtually to yourself during this season (at least we did). The bay is calm - snorkelling good particularly further out toward the private small docks. The people at the hotel were lovely - helpful in organising fair and interesting excursions or taxis and more than helpful when my daughter became ill - they arranged a room where we could stay until beyond checkout time so that she could have extra rest before leaving for the airport. The restaurant is excellent - a small problem is that we only managed to realise this on the last night there so take advantage of it sooner - and the bar well-located - it gets a lovely breeze. Highly recommend this.
“A nice reasonably priced beach hotel”
Pros: great beach, two good resturants, great beach bar, friendly and helpful staff, large room with two bedrooms, kitchen and sitting room, walking distance to Gran Anse beach, walking distance to grocery store (cab back with groceries) Cons: works best with a car to sample off-site restaurants (cabs get expensive and walking a mile from the bus stop in the dark is not for the faint of heart - but driving is not for the faint of heart either), kitchen furnishings a bit sparse (bring condiments/paper towels from home), ocean view room a must, minimal TV (BBC and NY ABC)
“If you can imagine you are at a Resort ( private -likebeach/bay) its paradise on budget”
Clean, friendly, helpful staff, new addition currently under construction. For a few dollars a memmorable view. This is my second stay.
“relaxing and off the beaten track”
We had a spacious apartment with a lovely balcony looking over the beach. The welcome was very friendly and helpful. Reception were always ready to help with queries. The apartment was clean and well equipped though a little worn. The air conditioning was needed. The restaurant has a small and basic menu with lots of fresh fish. There is a good choice of restaurants on Grand Anse beach only a short walk away. The hotel is off the bus route of the splendid mini bus service around the island and a walk of about 15minutes to the shopping mall, banks and buses at Grand Anse. Taxis are readily available but not cheap. The beach was fantastic, very sheltered and empty. We were able to use the swimming pool of the neighbouring hotel.
“Home away from home”
From check in to check out the experience was simply fantastic. The staff were well mannered, courteous and went out of their way to make our experience one never to forget. The staff were proactive in anticipating our needs. Swimming on the beach is a must as the crystal clear extremely calm waters are the best I have seen in the Caribbean. The restaurant carried a delicious menu and the lambi (sea conch) was quite a treat. The portions were very generous. The hotel is a bit out of the way and a car is mandatory. You do need to get proper directions to the hotel before venturing out on your journey. You get what you pay for and the hotel can do with some repairs. The ac unit located in the bedroom can comfortably cool the entire unit and the bedroom door should be left open. The mini kitchen was well equipped with the basic utensils.
“Very good value place to stay”
Gem Resort is great value for money. Its not fancy and the rooms are a bit dated, but for the price what can you expect? Its clean and the service is warm and friendly. Its also located on a fabulous beach which is much nicer and quieter than Grand Anse. If you're arriving in a hire car it can be a bit difficult to find as there are very few signs. Ask for more detailed directions. I'd definitely recommend a stay here if all you want is somewhere clean, friendly and welcoming in a great location.
“Great staff”
Nice Hotel. Needs a little work on bathroom. Very comfortable. Staff very very friendly. Can't do enough for you. Ocean View rooms fantastic. Whole of Morne Rouge Bay in front of you. Only one draw back - mosquitos. Take plenty of spray.
“Fair price for a fair hotel”
Had a very nice stay.Hotel is bare bones basic type hotel compared to others on the island. Is directly on the nice beach, but is very secluded from others. The hotel is NOT on the main bus route and it IS a very difficult walk to the road to catch the bus.Cabs are very pricey so this is one big downside to the hotel. If you are going to be going into St.Georges frequently cab rides will get pricey. We wound up renting a vehicle which was fine if crazy drivers and driving on the left doesnt bother you.The hotel staff ladies were very helpful and friendly. We were there during the off season so the disco and restaurant never really were used by us,so I cant comment on either. The beach is very clean and we had no beggars or vendors bother us.Overall this is the kind of hotel that takes getting used to,but once you do you kind of wind up "diggin it".We all said we would go back to the Gem.Hope this helps a bit.
