Very nice view of the lake
Very nice hotel room, was well put together and clean when we arrived. Bathroom shower was a bit tight for taller people but otherwise very well worth the stay!

Room with a view
We had a very nice stay at this Best Western. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The breakfast was fabulous! Our view of the lake was the best. It is also very close to shops, eating etc. I would stay here again and recommend it to one and all. thank you Best Western for a wonderful stay.

Close to beach
To say the least, we were very disappointed. We drove up from Duluth, MN and because of the Hotel condition we did not stay at this hotel. Needs to be up graded!

Great hotel right next to Lake Superior
This hotel is nice and clean and updated. We loved having our balcony door open to hear the waves crashing up on the shore. Every room in this hotel faces the lake so you can't get a bad view. You are literally just steps from the beach and can hear the waves from your room if you open your balcony door. When you close it, it's nice and quiet in your room.

Pet policy needs to be enforced/
During our stay, the party right above us allowed their DOGS (plural) to run around and prance constantly as well as barking. Starting at 5AM it sounded like being inside a snare drum with the constant running of dogs above us. Along with the barking, it made it impossible to get anymore sleep. That and their AC running despite the 51 degree outside temp. It was miserable. When we mentioned it to the desk clerk, we were simply ignored.

My daughter's wedding!
A trip to the North Shore in July can be an 'iffy' experience, but...we had perfect weather for my daughter's destination wedding and the hotel rooms were PERFECT! Comfortable beds, great breakfast and incredible views of Lake Superior. Thank you!

A perfect weekend getaway
The hotel staff was very friendly and I felt like she was expecting us at the moment. The room was very clean and smell nice. I'd stay again in this hotel and recommend to friends and family. I wishes that they would extend the hot tub hours longer. After a long day of hiking and out for dinner, I got back to the hotel around 9:30 and the hot tub was about to closed (10 PM), I was disappointed at it.

Beautiful view!
The view of the lake was perfect and the hotel was in walking distance from shops and restaurants. They have a great oversized parking lot for parking boats and trailers as well.

Beds were comfortable and the breakfast was adequate. I wish it had a pool or at least that the spa would be overlooking the lake. It's currently in the basement with no windows.

Anniversary celebration
We had a lovely room with a balcony on the beach. The weather was perfect for morning coffee on the balcony. Our room was comfortable and very quiet. A hearty breakfast was a perfect start to a day of hiking the parks and exploring Grand Marais. The staff was helpful in making dinner suggestions. They were "right on" with their recommendations. An evening walk on the quiet beach was the perfect way to end the day.

Excellent room with microwave and frig.
We upgraded when offered by hotel. Everything was perfect. Breakfast was great. Staff was excellent. Location in Grand Marias was very good.... in town, but on the beach.

Were suppose to have 2nd floor room with balcony and were given a 1st floor, people above us were loud and obnoxious, called front desk and nothing was done about it, very disappointing.

Staff person at check-in was very impersonal and appeared to be bored with having to deal with me. She seemed to resent my inquiry about the facility fee and didn't really give me a good explanation of what it was for. Gentleman at check-out was much better. He was friendly and showed enthusiasm about his day and was very gracious. Location is noisy.

Nice wedding anniversary
Beautiful time watching and listening to the big lake. Our 2nd floor balcony was perfect view and just steps from the shore. The hotel is easy walking distance to downtown shops, great dining and trails out to beautiful lake views. The room was clean and comfortable.

Surprising nice!
We stayed in a two queen lake view, while the outside of the hotel and the hallways made me think the room would be dated they were very nice! Everything felt clean and the room was very spacious. Our view of artist point was very nice too. Walking to "downtown" was great as well. I did notice/hear the above neighbors but it didn't really bother me, I expect some noise when staying in a hotel. We will stay here again. I think my only little complaint is that the staff could have been more friendly, there weren't overly rude but not exactly friendly either.

On the beach
This was the second stay for us-both times with dogs. Both times were is the John Beargrease section. The rooms are nice and I like that pets are allowed, however there is no elevator access to the rooms in the section we were at which this time meant carrying everything 3 floors. the first time we stayed there it meant lugging down one floor. This is why I rated it as OK. No where is the lack of access mentioned that I can tell. Great view. Nice room.

Great convenience
This hotel was amazing. Great views, quiet, beautiful. The breakfast works as you have a couple hot selections. The only thing that would make this an every other weekend stay (as we do need) would be the kids wouldn't have as Mich fun due to no pool and only a small hot tub but for a couple the hotel is phenomenonal!

I enjoyed the view of the shore
It was nice, we were very close to the shore and all the places in town. We even were able to walk to all of them because they were so close. Only downside was we weren't informed that everything basically closed at 11 and there wasn't a 24hr gas station.

Have I stayed in larger fancier rooms ... yes. Have I stayed at much more impressive facilities ... yes. Have I stayed in cleaner more comfortable rooms ... No. The facilities are very well cared for and the staff was happy, efficient, and friendly. Have I paid a lot more for a lot less ... Yes many times. Someone obviously cares about this facility and takes pride in it. I look forward to staying again.

Nice hotel with superb view of the lake.
We stayed for 5 nights and had a very nice stay. We got a room with a balcony and the view of Superior Lake was awesome. The room was a little small but still very comfortable and well kept. Breakfast was nice with lots of choices and the lady that ran the the breakfast room was very nice. The location was centrally located and perfect for a starting point every morning to all the area attractions. There a few choices of restaurants within walking distance but I would recommend MY SISTER's PLACE about two blocks away. Good food, reasonable prices, and lots of choices. We ate there every night! There is lots of quaint little shops within a few blocks in GRAND MARAIS which makes for fun shopping

I liked this hotel because is next to the lake, even I did not get a water front room, it has a beautiful view to the lake and you can walk in the shore. Excellent service and breakfast is very good too. I plan to go back on summer.

The appointments in this hotel room were excellent! The bathroom had modern finishes and a double headed shower that could be easily positioned for short and tall alike. We made good use of the two easy chairs and ottoman to enjoy the vista of East Bay Harbor in Grand Marais. The whirlpool was just down the hall and was a generous size. Shops and restaurants are walking distance.

Great coffee/beverage bar throughout the day
Great hotel, updated rooms,very comfortable and clean. Only reason I gave the facilities a 4 is due to having no lounge area. There are only tables for the continental breakfast. Everything else was excellent.

Surprisingly Superior!
We weren't sure what to expect when we got to Grand Marais as we had never been before - we had actually already "prepared" ourselves for a small town experience regarding accommodations but what we got was a room that rivaled if not exceeded the reality of our most recent large city stays! When we arrived and entered our room for the first time, we were presented with a modern room, spacious, separate large vanity, large walk-in shower - heat lamp in the shower room which was most appreciated given the record breaking low temps we experienced! We also had a large desk, and separate seating area giving us a place to "relax" and put our feet up (yes there was an ottoman!) without having to be "on the bed". A small fridge and microwave allowed us to enjoy our evening before left-overs the next day as well! HOWEVER - nothing compared to the incredible VIEW!!! I had never expected to experience minus 30 degree temperatures on a winter vacation, and willingly open the patio doors just to be on the balcony and hear the lapping of the waves of Lake Superior against the shoreline literally within reach of our room! A surprisingly SUPERIOR stay!!

My room seemed to be surrounded by rooms with dogs. Particularly annoying was the constant running and barking of dogs in the room above my room. Was not a relaxing or restful stay. If you don't bring pets ask for a room in a no pet section of the hotel if available!

Basement Room
I reserved a first floor room for a weekend stay. The room was a huge disappointment. It was located underground and not on the first floor It had a small window, similar to a look-out basement window that you could look out on weeds and the back of the Whole Foods Coop building. Management doesn't care that they misrepresent the room as long as they get your credit card to guarantee your payment. The rooms were noisy - you could hear the neighbors. The free breakfast was ok but it was crowded and they were out of fruit and orange juice. They had one choice of yogurt - peach? Run away from this hotel.

Comfortable in every way
The beach is literally right outside your sliding glass doors. Beds are comfortable; and unlike other reviews,we had no noise that kept us awake. The breakfast was more than adequate and provided many choices for healthy options. We were visiting the area to see the North Shore colors and timed it perfectly...it was well worth the trip. Having a comfortable room made it a perfect trip. Checking in and checking out were painless with a very friendly staff.

The rooms are really tired and old. The bathrooms are tiny but the double-head shower was great. Breakfast is supplied in a small room, which must fill up if the hotel is busy. The staff was cheerful and friendly.

Nice hotel close to everything
We stayed at the hotel one night and my husband had to work the next morning, so we asked for a late check out (1 hour later) to fit his work schedule and they didn't hesitate to say yes to us. We found all of the staff very nice and the rooms clean and comfortable. You can't beat the location. It is on the water and restaurants and shops are an easy walk.

Request the Lake View
Too expensive for not having a view to the Lake. Make sure you ask about this when you reserve. There are only a few rooms that don't face the lake and with the price you pay you should at least get the view.
