Hotel needs some renovation work.

Posted 4-Sep-2014
I'll start by saying the hotel staff was great, very accommodating. Many of the common areas smell musty/moldy (apparently this hotel had water damage). The room we were assigned initially smelled awful. We requested a room change and were accommodated. The second room was better, but not great. The bathroom had many moldy areas in the tub area and still had an undertone of mildew. The pool area is adequate, but does require a significant renovation. Overall, we will likely choose an alternative hotel on our next visit unless many renovations/upgrades are made in order for this hotel to be up to par.

UNFRIENDLY, UNDERSTAFFED AND UNCLEAN

Posted 28-Aug-2014
Pros: NOTHING
Cons: EVERYTHING
Upon arrival, waited 15 minutes for an unfriendly clerk to check me in only to find out they overbooked and did not have the room I purchased. Key didn't work...twice. Floor so dirty didn't want to walk around without shoes.

Pros: nothing
Cons: eveything
Location: Was Howard Johnson Hotel in Grand Forks, ND--the Columbia Mall is nearby
Was very disappointed upon even entering the hotel--the outer door was not locked and the outside sign stated you must use your room key to enter--well, the door opened readily without use of a room key. The upkeep of the hotel was very poor--peeling paint, dirty carpets, flooring cracked and unkept---in our room, the toilet leaked all over the floor twice, before getting repaired--the toilet clogged up (my husband fixed it)--very poor ventilation (we had a room by the pool) which made our room extremely muggy and windows always fogged up--bathroom door would not stay closed---housekeeping came into the room hours before we even had to check-out, and said that they thought we were already gone.... very disappointing stay, and even with the price i had to pay with Expedia discount, it was way too much to pay for this very poor establishment. It will never happen again.

Past it's prime.

Hotel is very dated. Lots of stains, worn out furniture. Waterpark was the best part except it was too dimly lit. Would not stay here again.

Nice comfortable stay

Posted 23-Aug-2014
Pros: Convenient location a bit away from commercial centres.
Location: U of ND, some restaurants, gas station not far away, churches, park, easy access to major communication routes
Not the top notch anymore, but room size adequate, our king bed very comfortable. A bit noisy AC, especially at night. Indoor water park, slides and swimming pool are nice addition to your stay. Morning breakfast is tasty and plentiful. Spacious area for guests convenience. Good coffee, tea, you can make your own waffle, topped with strawberry topping and real whipped cream. You can have 2 kinds of bread, bagels, choice of juices, peanut butter, cream cheese, jams ...etc. Fruit is available as well.

An Okay Option...

Posted 18-Aug-2014
An older hotel in need of a lot of repairs. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The pool area is a lot of fun for families and a much more economical option to the other waterpark hotel in Grand Forks. The room was not very clean. There was dust everywhere including in the coffee maker filter basket. The curtains in the room are only sheers, so there is not much privacy at night when it's dark outside and the lights are on in your room. It also makes it difficult if you plan to sleep later than sunrise due to the brightness in the room. The breakfast that's included is very good but if you show up at 6am when it opens don't expect the food to be out. The hot food wasn't brought out until around 6:30am when we were already heading back to our room. We might have gone for breakfast later if there were proper curtains to keep the room darker so we could sleep. I would still book here again knowing what to expect even though I gave it a less than stellar review.

Stay away

Posted 12-Aug-2014
Guy at check-in was clueless about everything. Checked into the room and the smell was horrible. Smelled of urine. Room was very dated, blankets were ripped, hole in the ceiling in the bathroom. I complained to the front desk but they didn't seem to care.

One night stay

Posted 12-Aug-2014
Hotel itself is dingy and worn but the beds were comfy, staff was pleasant, breakfast was ordinary but satisfactory. If I had kids I'm sure they would have LOVED the pool area. Showers and tub surround were kind of gross.
