The view from our Fjord room was breathtaking. The food quality of the buffet dinner and breakfast was pretty bad though. The dinner was very expensive, and the food was cold, over cooked, and we found a good sized glass shard in the roasted vegetable dish. The wait staff didn't seem to care about the glass shard, and we spent the rest of the meal double checking our bites rather than enjoying them. For an expensive meal, the experience was pretty darn bad and I would go any where else for food. The waiting staff is also quite pushy to get people out of the dining area as they walk around telling everyone that they will be putting the food away in ten minutes, for what is only a 2 hour window for dinner, and breakfast served until 10. So as far as mediocre food goes, this was by far the worst food we had on our entire trip to Norway, and by far the rudest wait staff experience. We had far superior food at the cafes elsewhere in Geirainger that were happy to let us eat at our leisure.
The hotel looks nice enough from the surface, but it is at the end of the day very much a 2 or 3 star hotel, just with an outstanding view. The TV in our room didn't work, the hallways were very musty and smelled of mildew. The "a la carte" restaurant and primary lounge/bar were both closed for renovation during our stay.
The front desk staff was very polite, and were happy to help us with directions since the a bunch of the normal roads were closed due to snow.
