“Awesome place!”
We were leary after reading that is was possibly closing. I called the hotel before i left and they said everyone is calling and that it's just a rumor. Once I arrived I asked my taxi driver and he said something was going on, but that maybe they were going to decide after the election in May for a new prime minister. Overall I felt it was well-run. There is only one restaurant now-- it's an outdoor bar, casual place right on the beach. Decent food and great staff. We always bring food and cook some meals, so I never rely totally on the restaurants. Not all rooms have full kitchens, we had to switch to get a full kitchen and even so no pots/pans or sharp knifes but they delivered whatever we needed. The beach is beautiful. Someone said grassy, but that was avoidable. Snorkeling was great-- there is a sunken structure that had lots of neat fish down on the left. This place is for peace and relaxation, or for young families. They had live music on Fri night, lasted until 11pm. We weren't interested in that. As everyone has said, if you want nightlife, don't stay here. Also, don't get grouper. Someone told me a story that sometimes it's replaced with rock fish which is poisonous. I had snapper or conch. There is one pool area, very nice. There are two hammocks on the beach. There are baracuda (small ones) and stingrays, but they are more scared of you. The rooms are beautiful, the bathrooms are spa-like. Our view was spectacular. We will go back. I hope it doesn't close!
“Impressed with Old Bahama Bay”
First thing we would recommend is to be sure to rent a car … very secluded resort (which is what we were looking for) but you need to drive into town for shopping, activities. Room- ask for the Ocean Front and you will not be disappointed! Its like having a private stretch of beach at your door. Room has a bar fridge and microwave; so be sure to stop in Freeport for beer, wine, fruit and snacks. Facilities – Kayaks, Hobby Cat and snorkeling gear…. Walking the beach with water shoes is helpful as there were jelly fish washed ashore and some rocky parts at the ends of the beach. Lots of discarded Conch Shells….We actually saw a small octopus and rescued him! Restaurants - there is Tiki Bar on the beach that we didn’t go to. There is another more formal restaurant at the Marina that was very good for dinner. Things to do Snorkeling at Paradise Cove (Dead Man’s Reef) is a must about 8 miles away. They rent snorkel equipment and “belt buddy” flotation, kayaks is also available. In Freeport Port Lucaya Market . Lots of shopping opportunities. Go to Agave for the Bahama Mama’s, Le Med for Lunch Specials. Also try Red Beards (across the harbor on Kings Road) for the best Stone Crab and counch fritters; Count Basie Square in Port Lucaya Market has nightly entertainment; Unexo dolphin and diving center. Taino Beach, Bishops Beach are worth going to. Solomon’s is a great place to by fruit, yogurt, water and light snacks for your room and day trips.
“Beautiful! We will definitely go back!”
We loved everything about Old Bahama Bay! We had a wonderful, clean, comfortable, room right on the beach. It was perfect! We loved sitting at the Straw Bar in the evening...just wish it didn't close at 6:00 pm. This was just about the most beautiful, peaceful, place we have ever been in the Bahamas.
“what a great find!!!”
I was nervous at first when we drove out to the hotel, since it was a long ride and not a lot of great scenery. But once we got to Old Bahamma Bay, I was blown away. We were driven in a golf cart to our room and given a yummy fruit punch. When we opened the door, our room took my breath away. It was beautiful. The grounds were beautiful and we were close the amazing pool. I cannot complain at all about the service. Excellent staff. And the food and drinks! Unbelievable! My only gripe would be the number of restaurants. I wish there were more options for food. This is the kind of place to go to relax and get away from it all. If you want a party/club scene with lots of activity, stay in Port Lucaya or go to Nassau.
“Old Bahama Bay”
My wife and I are age 60 and 58 respectivly and spent 6 days this February at this upscale getaway. If you seek gambling or more action this is not the place for you. It is quiet, dignified and relaxed. The staff is always available and extremely eager to please. There are 2 good restaurants on site , which you will use, as once you leave the grounds there is really nothing else for 25 miles or better. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, and the pool is beautiful. The beach, while small, is steps away. We were completely at ease there and loved relaxing on the patio overlooking the Atlantic. If you do get bored you may always drive into Freeport and Port Lucaya for some new restaurants and shopping. Nature preserves and other outdoor locations are also not too far. Everyone on the Island was super friendly. Some places don't look too inviting but we never felt unsafe or uncomfortable. It appears the national goal is to actually become the friendliest people on the planet to entice more tourists. If you lead stressful busy lives as we do, and need a week to relax and decompress, with some very pleasant and helpful folks, this is the place. We are not sure if we will ever return, but only because there are still so many places we want to see and so little time. If I was there right now I am sure it would be pleasant.
“Wonderful Vacation at Old Bahama Bay”
The family spent five days at Old Bahama Bay and we had a wonderful experience. The staff exceeded our expectations and the resort is absolutely beautiful. The area is very secluded, but it was exactly what we were looking for to have a stress-free vacation with no crowds. We had an oceanfront room and we were only 15 paces from the sandy beach. The kitchenette was helpful when it came to quick meals (stop at the local supermarket on your way to the hotel) and the restaurants at the resort offered good food. I would definitely recommend this resort to couples or families!
“The hotel was beautiful, but watch the mosquitos!!!”
This hotel is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!However; it is a bit far from the airport. You MUST rent a car and purchase groceries because the resort food in quite expensive...
“Very Relaxing”
My husband and I wanted to get away for a long weekend and do nothing but relax and this was the place! I can see where some people may call it boring, but if you truly want to sit by the pool or overlook gorgeous water while reading or relaxing, you will be happy at Old Bahama Bay. The grounds were very well kept and so were the rooms. We rode bikes every morning. I would agree with previous reviews that it would have been better to have a few more food options. The poolside bar had good food but it closed by 5pm, so you had to either eat early or go to one of the other restaurants. We stopped by a grocery store on our way there and got some fruit and snacks, so I would definitely recommend doing that...the drivers were happy to stop. Overall, we were very pleased and will definitely be going back!
“Perfect relaxing getaway”
This was a repeat trip to OBB and it was just as great as before. This place is so relaxing, with friendly staff and overflowing with amazing sea life just off the shore. There is no nickel and diming for kayaks, snorkel gear or hobies - you just walk up and borrow them whenever you want. The fishing is awesome - you can catch baracuda, jacks, snapper all just by walking out your door. The bonefish guide was great too, we had a great day out and had luck there too. The rooms are beautiful and well-appointed - great bathroom too. Recommend stopping at a grocery on the way into the resort from the airport to pick up snacks etc. as there is a mini-kitchen in the room and we made use of it. The beach wasn't as cleaned up as it had been in the past which was disappointing, but I think it was because we were there just as the season was starting again. Still a beautiful beach though. The conch fritters are the best! I was disappointed that Aqua (fine dining) closed, but Bonefish Foley's and the Straw Bar provided great meals none-the-less. If we were there more than 4 nights, I would have wanted to head into Freeport for dinner as there really aren't other options nearby. I will say this is not a place for those who desire lots of options night life - there are plenty of other places in the Bahamas for that - this is for those looking to unwind and relax! For us, this place is just right.
“Exactly what we hoped for!”
My wife and I chose Old Bahama Bay for our Honeymoon and we are SO glad we did!! This was the perfect honeymoon getaway for us. We wanted to get away and stay away from the big resorts and Old Bahama Bay was the perfect fit. The rooms are just like the photos on the website and were very clean and very comfortable. We enjoyed the secluded beach. The food was great and we liked watching the boats/yachts come in to the marina. We would highly recommend Old Bahama Bay to anyone and we can't wait to go back!
