Situated on about four tropically landscaped acres, the resort fronts 350 feet of private beach with spectacular views of the sun setting over the Gulf of Mexico. The J. N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, home to many native species of birds, reptiles, and mammals, is within two miles, as is Periwinkle Way, the island's “main street,” with galleries, restaurants, and boutiques. The Dunes Golf and Tennis Club, where guests receive discounts, is five miles away.
Continental breakfast and use of bicycles are complimentary. The resort's outdoor pool is one of the largest on the island. Wireless Internet access is complimentary.
Charcoal barbecue grills and picnic tables are also on site. Guest laundry facilities are available for a surcharge.
The Sunset Beach Inn is smoke-free.

The resort has its own 350-foot stretch of private beach and offers complimentary chaise lounges for sunbathing. Beach and pool cabanas are available for a surcharge. Sanibel Island is famous for its shell-strewn beaches; beachcombers are likely to be rewarded with striking specimens of the island's many indigenous mollusk species.
A heated outdoor pool, surrounded by chaise lounges, is one of the largest on the island. Adjacent to the pool area are two shuffleboard courts and a tennis court. Tennis rackets and balls are provided by the resort.
Guests receive discounts at the semi-private Dunes Golf and Tennis Club, five miles away. The back nine of the Dunes golf course is an Audubon-sanctioned wildlife preserve, where many species of native wildlife can be observed. The club also has seven Har-Tru tennis courts.

“sanibel our new favorite place”
we loved the hotel and sanibel island. staff very helpful. holly was our main contact. only wish the beach chairs and umbrellas were left out until 6:30 or 7:00 pm. 5:00 pm seemed early, we were still swimming at 7:00 pm. loved every minute.

“Enjoy the sun and surf”
Sanibel Sunset Beach was a very good motel resort. That it is right on a lovely, uncrowded part of the beach and has a good pool on premises afforded us the relaxation we were looking for. The free bikes were good, not great, as was the breakfast of bagels, juice, and donuts. The rooms are kept beautifully by an attentive and helpful staff. The people who worked in the office were friendly and made the stay comfortable as well. It's not fancy or luxurious, but it's a wonderful, affordable place to plant yourself for 3 or 4 days.
“Comfy room 30 steps from the beach....”
We chose this hotel on Sanibel for its beach access. We've been to Sanibel several times but never stayed on the island before - we wanted the luxury of being able to get up at sunrise and walk on the beach, or even see the sands by moonlight. This hotel easily offered that, with free chairs and umbrellas to boot. The room was nice enough, and the hotel is making an effort to go "green", which is nice for the eco-conscious. Sanibel is a small island, so the hotel is pretty close to everything - just bear in mind that the island is place for peace, nature, and sunny beaches - not wild nightlife and a party atmosphere. I definitely would stay at this hotel again.

Had a great time, hotel staff was extremely helpful and very accommodating. Pool was absolutely wonderful, just steps to the beach. Had everything we could possibly need.
