This hotel and staff was the WORST experience I've ever had! The hotel advertised a hot tub ( big reason we chose and booked) and was verified when we called to ask about pet policy. Then was informed at check it was not available. Then was immediately verbally assaulted by a staff member after being checked in and heading to the elevator. Calling a customer a derogatory name while your on duty is not professional or curtious. Then being told by front desk thats just how she is. That response explains the whole horrible experience and attitude of the establishment. We traveled over 1000 miles to visit family for a couple days and when they came to the hotel so we could figure out our plans we were informed that we were not aloud to have visitors and was told to leave the property if we didn't like the policies. We spent less then an hour at this hotel. Has an absolutely horrible new owner and buissness person. The Holiday inn has a fantastic hot tub and is a great place to relax and sleep after a very long trip and horrible experience. Great service, staff and facilities. If you plan on visiting family in Fort Dodge. I highly recommend the Starlight Best Western. They are very open and informative on policies and family visitors. Fantastic people and guest services!

I arrived later in the evening, tired, hungry and ready for a quiet night!! All was provided to me. The doors do not open automatically, so the check in woman actually held the door for me. Also since I’m somewhat handicapped and an older Individual I was so pleased to have a ground floor room that was handicapped accessible. I usually ask for one but don’t usually get one. I was very pleased with my stay at this AmericInn.

For whatever reason the other isnt working but i put a reservation for one this locations 1bdroom suites and online it showed before i booked 1 left after i booked amd paid for the room it didnt offer the big suite anymore, so perfect right.. WRONG when my family arrived i asked to confirm that we had a 1 bedroom with doors i was told yes well get up to the room and guess what not their suite we were given one of their king rooms with 1 bed and a half of a couch for my son to sleep on.. we ended up waking up at 230am and leaving bc the bed was uncomfortable and my son couldnt hang off the couch anymore and was in pain.. definitely wish id of looked around more or heck even stayed at one of the older motels it would of been better

Staff was not available at check in and took 15 for us to wait for the next shift staff to help us. Key cards didn’t work and when we reported it to the staff they said that happens. Took us three times to get a working keycard just to enter our room. Breakfast items ran out. Bathroom had cracked tiles and toilet was not functioning properly. Spent a lot of money and seriously didn’t get anything in return

This is the 2nd time I've stayed at this property. The 1st experience was nothing like this one. Upon arrival, the woman working the front desk was less than friendly. When entering our room, there was paper cups on the floor as though it had not been cleaned from a previous guest. That night we decided to swim & there were other guests in the pool yelling about fighting. There were no towels in the pool area, the front desk was kind enough to give me 2 towels for the pool but apparently had previously refused the other guests towels as that was the reason they were yelling about fighting. Breakfast was decent. Check out was ok, however 2 days later I got a charge for the hotel stay. When I called the hotel & spoke with the manager, the manager screamed at me & said she never swiped my card or charged me. She kept yelling about an Amex card, I explained to her that I have l dont have an amex card & that I paid through expedia, which raised her anger because she was upset that I booked through a 3rd party. I again tried to inquire why my "incidental" card was charged for the stay, she got very aggressive & said my card is nowhere in her system. She continued to talk over me & refused to let me get a word out. I tried to suggest maybe my card got tied to another room somehow & she said "you dont get it, we dont have your card on file, what dont you understand". WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. From start to finish- horrible customer service.

I had a broken sink but I fixed it and toilet was acting up. Room was clean and my son loved the pool! We sat in hot tub one night the next day my son woke up with rashes on his legs and was itchy and that night hot tub was shut down due to high PH level. Wish we would’ve known that the day before. Person that checked us in wasn’t very friendly but the guy that worked the next night was very polite!

There was no early check in even though rooms weren’t full. The “fitness center” had two pieces of equipment a treadmill and an elliptical and only the elliptical worked. No one answers the phone.

I booked this room so my son and I would have a place to stay before he moved into his apartment at Iowa Central. On the 6 hr drive there, we got a notification that move in was postponed until the next day due to weather. I was only able to take one day off due to my work schedule, so I called the motel to see if there was anyway that my son would be allowed to stay there alone, he is 18 the front desk girl was completely unwilling to accommodate, even when I explained the situation I asked if there was any exception that could be made, he has a very responsible kid And it was a Sunday night but she refused to help saying he absolutely needed to be 21. Luckily, I was able to find another area accommodation that was more than happy to assist, given the extenuating circumstances. The poor customer service cost me over $100 and them any future bookings.

When we arrived for our stay to visit family that we had not seen in two years everything seemed well and good. That is until we found that the hot tub was not working and the heated pool was not heated very well. We informed the front desk personnel know and were told that they didn't know how warm the pool was because they didn't like being around water. The hot tub jets did not work the one day that it was deemed safe to use. In addition, my card was authorized twice for the stay and I am still waiting (11 days for the authorization to be removed from my account). I contacted the hotel twice and they told me there is nothing they can do to expedite the matter, even though my bank assures me that the can. Finally, the free breakfast seemed to be free to everyone, except paying customers. My wife saw on several occasions people walking in the front lobby on their way to work to have breakfast. There are lots of other options in the area, I would avoid this one at all costs.

The staff were efficient and ALL practiced "Iowa Nice". Then made you feel welcomed and well cared for. The inside has been recently refurbished/repainted. The breakfast had many options. The nearby Tom Thumb restaurant was a great sample of local Iowa fare.

Little Gem away from the main strip.
Super easy Check in and out process. Everything was clean and since it’s a little out of the way it was amazingly quiet. No elevator all night, people slamming doors or anything. Restful night just what we needed.

The only bummer part was the hot tub was closed down and there was no mention of it on Expedia. After driving all day we were looking forward to the relaxation in the hot tub. The coffee station set up was awesome!!!
