"Nice hotel, clean & comfortable."
Only spent two nights, but the stairs to the 2nd floor suites were a bit much for my knees. I wish someone had warned me so I could have gotten a ground floor room.

"No closets unless you are in a premium room"
Our room was fine with one glaring exception, there was no closet. No hangers. No place to hang anything. When I called the front desk to ask where the closet could be hiding I was told only the premium rooms had them. Hum, that's a first for me. The beach and waterfront area is lovely and a great place to have a drink and watch the sunset. The front desk staff was efficient but lacked any warmth. That's fine in a motel maybe but the staff at a resort should make more of an effort. One issue that we noticed is that there is no laundry service unless it's a cottage but we were told by the front desk that there is no laundry mat in all of Marathon, yikes!

"Wonderful stay in Key West!"
Our stay at The Gates Hotel increased our overall first-time experience in Key West immeasurably! This was a wonderful, newly renovated hotel, affordable, and above and beyond our expectations. We loved our island experience in Key West, and hope to be back to The Gates soon!

"Quiet place, gives you a well needed break "
Great place to stay. It's quiet and gives you a little break from the chaos in Key West. Saved a lot of money by staying here and drove into Key West one day. Also not that far of a drive from Everglades

"Power strip"
Bring a power strip. Limited accessible outlets. Noisy at night because of close proximity to 2 bar/restaurants with loud music.

"A decent hotel for the money "
Overall, this is an OK vacation option. Pricing and location were not bad, but there were some issues. We had to call and request a room cleaning three times before finally having it done two days before our departure. Light bulb burned out in bedroom that was also replaced two days before we left. Screen door to balcony was broken and we asked multiple times for a screen on one of the five bedroom windows so that we could open a window which never happened. Between the broken balcony screen and no screens elsewhere, it was very disappointing to not be able to open any door or window to enjoy the Florida weather without bugs. Additionally, we were a family a five and the balcony was the smallest I have ever seen. Had a corner unit, but balcony could barely fit/seat two people. Having a W/D was nice, even though dryer took almost two hours to dry per load. Oven did not work, very little cookware and no bake ware to speak of at all - we had to buy aluminum ones. At the end of the day, we don't go to Florida to stay in our room and so most of these issues were not a deal breaker for us, but it was frustrating at best, as we expected a bit more for what we paid. Nice pool, small but nice beach, tennis courts were fun, basketball net was awful. A good central location, but I would probably give consideration to an alternate location for all the issues we had.
