“Mumma's Place is like home.”
My son and I went to the Tropic of Capricorn Resort, expecting it just be a place to stay. It was much more than that. Mumma and her staff made us feel welcome, the moment that we walked in. We were spoilt by open hospitality and warm smiles. The beauty of the location captivated us. Mumma, who is the owner, advised us, mothered us and assisted us in choosing our daily activities. My son turned 21 whilst we were there and Mumma put on a special evening for him - with a local Fijian band and the staff made him a special lai out of flowere - we were so spoilt! Our stay will forever stay with us as we carry the wonderful memories of Fiji and Mumma's hous with us into old age. Thank you Mumma and thankyou to Don, Tom, Bella and Sammy for making our time in Fiji so special!!!!
“A home away from home !!”
Mama's Tropic of capricorn was a home away from home, Mama treated you like a mother would, with a big hug and a personality to match, she made you feel at home , and along with her loyal staff , was ready to take each and every guest under her wing and bent over backwards to help with any issues, bookings, food , etc. We were accepted with open hearts, and made to feel like we were her children, I personally felt the extent of her giving nature when she , and her staff cooked a spread of great fijian dishes on 4 seperate days as a special treat for Doreen and myself , and invited any guests to join in , and help themselves , and it was on the house !!! We came for 3 nights, and stayed for 16 nights, the view was fantastic, and the beach , and warm tropical waters were on your doorstep. Room was just right with AC ,an attached bath and a balcony facing the 0cean with comfortable queen sized beds, mama,s husband Ted was a great conversationalist and had a fantastic memory and was very knowledgable on a wealth of topics, and even rushed me to his doctor in his car when I had an allergic reaction to a fishing infection bug from using handlines out on the ocean over 2 nights, I was fixed up in no time at all, even enjoying the fuss created over me. I would love you to visit the Tropic of Capricorn and experience the true hospitality of the fijian people , and mama's larger than life personality, We've booked to return at easter , and are counting down the days. Peter.
“Nadi - the gate way to the islands.....”
The Tropic Of Capricorn was a pleasant place to stay with a simple but nice breakfast. We sojourned in an annex 5 minutes walk away from the main hotel which was not far but a little distance from the hotel amenities. Also the Internet access was expensive (even using your own device) compared to The Bamboo hostel around the corner which had free Wi-fi. The staff were very friendly and helpful in arranging transfers and such. As a place Nadi is not a pleasing as the beautiful islands and as such I can only recommend staying there for a short period either side of an island trip making Nadi no more than a gateway to nicer places...
“Title”
Friendly Service, extremley helpful staff that go out of their way to help the tourists, great food at cheap prices and generaly good room albeit a tad small
“Best value holiday in Smugglers cove area.”
Perfect location, our room overlooked the beach with a 20m walk onto the sand. Staff, mamma in particular were very friendly and helpful. Prices were excellant, food was great and overall we thought it was the best value holiday we had ever been on.
“My stay at (Mama's) Tropic of Capricorn”
From the very first moment Mama made me feel at home....I had not even checked in and she was telling me and my friends to jump in the pool to cool down. The room was small but neat and the air-con was a blessing. Every morning Mama and co would greet me with big smiles and the offer of coffee (or rum and coke). The pool is superb and the hotel is right on the beach front. It is smaller than others in the same place but right next door is Smugglers with everything you may need, The resident dog, Lindsay (Lindsay Lohan) is a bit rough around the edges but quickly becomes friends with all dog lovers. Totally reccommend for price, room and host! If you run out of toilet paper, it's replaced quickly, if you're hungry they'll pull out a loaf of bread and tell you to make toast, if you just want a chat then go to the bar and hang out. Loved it :)
“what more do you want for the price!!!!”
stayed at this hotel/ back packers accomodation in september. The most important point to know " there are no shops" around this road appart fom Smugglers cove next door there is a small shop selling souvenirs, money exchange, sweets. The bus stops about 5 30 pm. The nearest town for shops is Nadi which will cost about four pounds in a cab not bad you can go to a suppermarket to bye drinks and essentials. To be honest this accomodation was excellent for the price. The beach is better than what I exspected a cool and cheep location to stop for a few days. There are other hotels/hostels to eat IN ON WASA WASA RD ! there is a good fire show in smugglers which is directly next door but not much else to do at night at all. Across the road there is another hostel that has rooms for six pounds a night it was always busy with travelers singing and a good meal for four pounds $10 fjd, they also have cheep drinks in a vending machine $1 fjd. You will get picked up from the airport included in room price no return drop off. Good food at TOC just not happy with the cats and dogs in and out of the kitchen. I think its better to book on line as it was cheeper than paying there. There is a good pool area with sky tv, the internet is always down but you can find it else where quite exspensive about 3/4 pound an hour. You get tea/coffe toast free every day and as much as you want .
“A charmimg character”
Mama is a wonderful character and worth the visit for her alone. The rooms are somewhat vaguely described in Expedia and I suggest emailing Mama to confirm what you think you are getting. We were booked into a no bathroom unit with the facilities two stories down. Foirtunately Mama solved the problem amiably
“Disappointed”
The owner was a very friendly and welcoming person. The hotel however seemed quite rundown. I didn't expect much for the money i paid so I wasn't too disappointed at first. The hotel was in a good location right next to the ocean. My room had a good view of the ocean. However it was quite plain and didn't have much amenities. It didn't have all the necessary toiletries such as soap and shampoo. But once again for the price i expected as much so I brought my own. The things that really disappointed me were that there was a fire in the resort and there was no hot water which was something i wasn't made aware of. At the time I didn't have much options so I checked into the resort. The bed felt dirty and didn't feel very comfortable. My sleep was terrible. 5 mins into my sleep I felt something crawling on my leg. I woke up to see a spider like bug on my leg. I got rid of it and then went back too bed. Then I felt a moth fly onto my face. stuff like this carried on for sometime and It became really irritating. I had enough especially as I paid for a proper working bathroom and I didn't want to use a shared bathroom. continental breakfast consisted of 3 pieces of toast and a choice of coffee or tea. My stay was suppose to be 4 day's I checked out on the next day. Best to avoid until the do the necessary repairs.
“When u hear 'Avoid' then something must be wrong.”
I agree mummas welcoming was good but I could not stay there. Someone needs to tell the staff to clean the place. No parking, deserted pool and the rooms...Maybe if you are single and need to place to crash out drunk....Definitely not for a family. Out of over 20 hotels in Fiji , only one I walked out of and taking time out for a review. Sorry but the pictures prob 10 yrs old.
