The poolside setting of glorious ocean views amid palms and figs and the open but intimate layout of Garden Island coupled with the warmth of the welcome that we received and the high quality food gave us the impression of staying in an exclusive bed and breakfast or upmarket boutique you'd ordinarily pay through the nose for.
We avoided the "resorts" of DI by making the extra but fun trip to Garden Island and we were rewarded with a peaceful, unique stay.
The facilities were simple but it's strengths were an outstanding, fresh menu that changed daily and a pool area which was lined by an open and most comfortable restaurant and bar overlooking the ocean and licked with sun and delightful afternoon tranquility.
The rooms were comfortable without being outstanding as they were somewhat small though were immaculately clean and the ocean front hot tub in each room was a big win.
Most appealing re rooms though was that they were positioned within metres of the water so we woke to ocean views in the morning, views of the sunset in the afternoon, and we'd retire to bed with the soft sound of waves in the evening.
Taveuni is large enough to get out and enjoy a day trip to lush rain forests and waterfalls or escape to an isolated island with a packed lunch prepared by the hotel.
The resorts diving facilities are first class and the snorkelling is wonderful.
Make the effort if you are after a peaceful, romantic escape.
We loved our stay at Garden Island.

Our stay at Qamea was unforgettable! The island and coral reef are beautiful. The staff are so friendly and interesting to talk to. The resort is quiet and laid back so you can relax or there are numerous activities if you want to see and do everything!!

Situated on the south side of Beqa (Ben-ga) Island, which is a relatively large beautifully verdant island south of Pacific Harbour, Kulu bay has spacious rooms, great food and very friendly staff from the island's villages. Great house reef and access to boat diving, including renowned shark dive near Pacific Harbour. Other available activities include traditional Fijian feast, Kava ceremonies, village visit, sandbar picnic and snorkeling, kayaking, in-room massage, and fire-walking. With only 7 rooms it's peaceful and we were the only guests there for some of our stay. No internet, no phones - a perfect getaway destination.

We spent 2 nights at octopus island resort as part of our Yasawa Island hopping holiday recently. Our bure was great with absolute beachfront position and open to the sky shower. (Tip: use the mosquito nets or shut the bathroom door overnight). The kids loved everything about this resort, esp the pool and the sandy floored dining area. The food was delicious with heaps of choice. I appreciated the unlimited safe drinking water. First class snorkelling too. We look forward to returning!!
