Hlosi Game Lodge
At your hotel
Hlosi Game Lodge is set in the heart of the Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. The Amakhala Game Reserve is a 7500 hectare malaria-free reserve, only an hour away from Port Elizabeth and Addo, and is home to the Big 5. It is the product of an inspiring long-term conservation project, and a partnership between families that have lived on the land for generations. This journey continues today and is inspired by every visitor to the Reserve. With you, we continue the long-term and rewarding project of creating a game reserve, nurturing flora and fauna back to the full 5 biomes that the region is famous for, and building a long-term conservation platform for birds, buck, predators and of course, our world-renowned Big 5. Every guest that visits Hlosi plays a part in this conservation vision, and we're proud and inspired to share it with you. Set in the heart of the Amakhala, Hlosi is a family-owned lodge, specialising in family safaris on the Amakhala. Our Safari Kids programme includes customised activity schedules, a dedicated kids' room in the main lodge, flexible dining arrangements, and superb family suites. Baby-sitting services can be arranged at very reasonable rates. Because we only have six rooms, we offer an intimate, personalised safari experience, and our private chalets allow us to create great family experiences without intruding on other guests' privacy and peace. As the camp is unfenced, a wide variety of game comes right into camp. The breeding elephant herd, black rhino and buffalo are frequent visitors to our swimming pool and verandahs. This makes for a breathtaking game viewing experience right in camp, sometimes even from the comfort of your own bed. Our main lodge has a large lounge area, bar and library with a wrap-around covered verandah with views over the valley. There's also a swimming pool and a bird hide overlooking the water hole, a "boma" (outside evening entertainment area), a large deck and a dedicated kids' room. Rates include Full Board: your Hlosi experience includes all meals, selected local beverages, and two game activities per day. So you can relax and enjoy and leave it all to us.

Eat and drink
Your Hlosi experience is a Full Board experience: all meals, teas & coffees, and selected local beverages are included in the rate. Typically, your first meal is a light cold buffet breakfast before your morning game drive, served with a reviving fresh hot coffee or tea (hot chocolate for the little ones). About half way through your game drive you'll stop for hot or cold drinks (depending on the weather) and some freshly baked treats. On your return from game drive, a slap-up full cooked brunch awaits you, finished up with a meditative last coffee on the verandah. A few hours later, Hlosi High Tea is served either on the verandah or in the dining room. Enjoy a delicious selection of sweet and savoury pastries and baked treats, tea sandwiches and hot and cold drinks before you leave on your afternoon game drive or boat ride. During your game drive - around sunset - you'll stop for hot or cold drinks and savoury snacks at a view point, to make sure the sound of your tummy rumbling doesn't disturb the wildlife. On your return from the game drive, refresh yourself with a hot drink and take a deep breath before you embark on your scrumptious four-course table service dinner, served with a great selection of local wines. After dinner, sink into a comfortable couch on the verandah or in the lounge, or gather around the bar for a nightcap.
Room service (during limited hours) is available.
For families travelling with children, our kids coordinator will put together a kids' programme with you for the duration of your stay, so that both you and the kids can make the most of your time with us. The programme below is the standard daily programme and is coordinated with your children's programme. The first activity of the day is your morning game drive with your personal ranger. Lasting about 3 hours, this drive includes a number of different biomes, and is planned in discussion with you, to give you the best game viewing experience possible, according to the length of your stay. After the game drive, Chef has a full brunch ready and waiting for you, after which you're free to relax on your deck, or at the pool, or spend a few hours in the bird hide or on the verandah with a book. Hlosi High Tea is a great time to meet other guests and swop news of wildlife sightings. After high tea, your ranger has the landrover ready and waiting and stocked with drinks, and it's back out onto the reserve for your afternoon game drive or boat ride on the Bushmans River. On your return from the game drive, take a refreshing shower or bath and head back to the main lodge for an aperitif before dinner. Weather dependent, dinner is served in the dining room, out on the terrace, or next to the fire in the Boma. After dinner, sink into a comfortable couch on the verandah or in the lounge, or gather around the bar for a nightcap. Our hand-picked (and often quality-tested!) selection of single malt whiskies is a great way to end the day.
Our swimming pool, bird hide and library are all welcoming places to while away an afternoon. A selection of books an a complementary decanter of port, or your room minibar all make your room an equally attractive place to unwind and adjust to "bush time". In addition to our personalised Big 5 game viewing experience, we're proud to be able to offer boat rides on our own beautiful stretch of the Bushmans River.
