Best in Eastbourne

Posted 7-Apr-2014
Pros: Everything was very good.
Cons: Speed up the bar service ang give fresh bread with the ploughman's.....that is all.
Location: The Cavendish is handy for all town and sea facilities and yet it is only 15 minutes drive from Beachy Head.
Have stayed here overnight 4 times in last 6 years...every time gets better ! Staff were excellent at reception and in dining room. Bar service could be a bit slow. Room was facing car park but large, very clean, good bathroom and shower, very comfortable. Parking was easy but cost £4.... worth it ...better than on street. Evening meal in dining room was excellent and staff superb. Snacks during the day are reasonable and large portions. Ploughman's platter was very good, pity they gave rolls instead of crusty bread Walk to pier in 5 minutes..... theatre's in 8 minutes.....station in 15....town centre in 5 minutes.

Very friendly staff, great view and location

Posted 23-Feb-2014
Cons: wifi access to internet - connection was requiring username and password everytime we needed to use it.
Location: We only stayed 3 days but we have found a lot of things to do - local public swimming pool, cinema, walking by the sea, pier ...
I went to the hotel with my 2 boys for half-term. The bedroom was very spacious, in very good condition and with great sea view. The staff was very welcoming and friendly during the whole stay (including housekeeping). Great breakfast.

Middle aged couple

Pros: Cleanleness and well situated.
Cons: More comfortable seating in the rooms
Location: Ideal for shopping, very close to theatres and restaurants.
Staff very friendly and helpfull, food good quality although on two occasions we ordered coffee and tea and were given out of date biscuites. these were returned to the waiting staff who apologized but it should'nt have happened a second time (chuck the box out). A nice break which we intend to repeat.

Good hotel, shingle beach just across the road

Posted 8-Feb-2014
Pros: Generous public spaces on the ground floor. Big breakfasts (or small if you prefer) Good location
Cons: £5/day charge for wi-fi access seems a bit steep. Given the room prices, surely this should be included.
Location: Seafront hotel, shops, theatres, restaurants all nearby.
We stayed 5 nights in February. The weather was very wet and windy. The hotel has grand public spaces all recently refurbished and is very conveniently located within easy walking distance of the main shopping and entertainment area of Eastbourne whilst being right on the seafront. Rooms at the front of the hotel had open views out over the sea. Our room was at the back of the building and had a very limited view obscured by anti-pigeon nets, brick and steel fire escapes. We had a twin bedded room with a soft but comfortable pair of beds, room and furniture were in good decorative order. The room was wide but not very deep which made getting past the table positioned beside the window a bit tight. The bathroom was small but adequate with a bath/shower and plenty of hot water. The hotel had a powerful heating system and even with the radiator valve turned off, we had to leave the window open permanently to maintain a comfortable temperature in the room which was very stuffy otherwise. We found the dismal outlook from the room a bit depressing and didn`t linger there but used the grand public spaces on the ground floor in preference. The breakfasts were operated on a buffet basis with a wide choice of cold and cooked items leaving no excuses for starting the day on an empty stomach. We found the staff very positive, friendly and helpful. Overall I would recommend it to others but suggest enquiring about the outlook from the window if you enjoy a reasonable view.

Hooray, a single room to enjoy

Posted 7-Feb-2014
Pros: A lovely big room that I looked forward to returning to.
Cons: Please check for toast crumbs from the previous table occupant before re-assigning the table
Location: Hotel is moments away from the theatres and Towner Gallery. A short walk shopping area and Eastbourn pier
Hooray a single room to enjoy returning to - this room was BIG, a refreshing change to the usual 'broom-cupboards', with plenty of storage space, a side table and desk too. And a lovely big bath for a jolly good soak too . Enjoyed the extras provided in addition to the tea/coffee facilities (complimentary toiletries, sewing kit, and shoe shine pad). The carpet appeared to be new and was immaculate, decor was neutral and the view over the Eastbourne town and Downs amazing. My stay was for four days, I tried both the Buffet and a la Carte breakfasts, and found the latter was better quality. Wish I had more time so that I could have experienced the Afternoon Tea/Spa combo which was on offer. Will I stay here again? You bet!
