“Excelent Stay”
A most centrally located hotel on the river. Easy walking distance to everything with very clean rooms, and first class included breakfast.
“Would go back”
Very comfortable hotel, lots of character, situated in a perfect position to explore the fascinating old quarter of Ghent on foot. Secure underground car park just around the corner, and several good quality restaurants within a few minutes walk.
“Great Town, Convenient Hotel”
My husband & I stayed here for 3 nights in March 2012. On advice from the hotel, we took No. 1 tram from rail station to Korenmarkt stop. Easy to use English language option on ticket machines at tram stop, From Korenmarkt we walked parallel to river to reach hotel. About 10 minutes walk. Hotel location is great for sight seeing on foot. The medieval area and castle are directly across the river from hotel. Vridagmarkt (full of café / bars) is immediately adjacent and Korenmarkt is 10 minute walk. Our room was well appointed with plenty of space for 2 . Our room looked onto side street. Great until we found there was a night club down that street and the 3:00am Saturday night revelers were a bit noisy. Not a big hassle though. One hour of free internet available ( enough to check emails) and there was a room tax of 15 euros for 3 nights. Breakfast not included in the room rate (available at extra charge). We opted to eat out. Unfortunately found that Europeans rise later than we do. No cafes open in Vridagmarkt. Eventually found type of health food café open in Korenmarkt. Breakfast was pleasant with hot soups as well as breads, pastry & yoghurts. Hotel has a lovely courtyard. Every day there was a happy hour (actually 2 hours) for wine & beer from the hotel bar. We enjoyed some very relaxing time drinking in the courtyard. Hotel staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. Overall we would recommend other travelers to stay at the Ghent River Hotel
“Outstanding location.”
Very nice, practical hotel. Nothing fancy but comfortable. The location is outstanding. The hotel is situated in the heart of the historic city center. A lot to see and do within easy walking distance. Breakfast buffet very good. This was my second visit to this hotel. I will stay there again.
“Pretty good hotel in nice location”
This hotel is located very close to most of the main sites in the old part of Gent. If you are expecting a luxury hotel this would not be the place to stay, but if you are expecting an above-average hotel in a good location this one's a good bet. The lobby is very nice, but the hallways were in need of some cleaning/maintenance. The room was clean and was more modern than many comparably priced Belgian hotels. There is a parking lot in the adjacent square where you can park your car and leave it for your entire stay since all of the main sites are within a short walk. The staff was very friendly. My only complaints are that the bed is comprised of two twin beds pushed together (however, the linens were of very high quality), and that the hotel internet service/computer didn't work so well. Overall this was a very nice little hotel, that I would recommend.
“Nice break”
My boyfriend and i enjoyed most of our stay at the River Hotel. The few complaints we had were that when we asked for an ironing board we actually had to collect it from reception, and the service at breakfast was slow and uninformed. It was also expensive for what you got. Other than that the room we stayed in was comfortable and cosy and location wise it was in a quieter part of town but within easy reach of the centre district. We managed to coicide our trip with a local festival which made the trip a little bit more exciting even if there were people outside our room at 8 in the morning with a large forklift!
“very nice hotel”
well located and familiar atmosphere
“Wonderful experience”
Close walking distance to everything. Always felt safe. Comfortable, spacious rooms. If you take the bus to/from hotel, get a map, the hotel staff was a little uninformed about nearest bus routes. Staff spoke English and were helpful (other than bus route information). Though knowing basic phrases helps (as it is typically when you travel).
“Handy Hotel in Gent's Old Town”
Not the best of service, polite enough, but under staffed. Goodlocation, handy for the old town and 10 min walk to Damport train station. Good value, clean and well maintained. Would definitely go back and is worth checking out.
“Decent location but room could be cleaner.”
In terms of location within Ghent we found the hotel was convenient. Easy stroll to the Friday Market and along the main walking route through the historic area of Ghent. The room had exposed wooden beams and had some character but could have been cleaner as there were numerous cobwebs up in the ceiling area. Had a view of the back of another building and some rubbish. Staff were not as friendly as we encounter at many hotels however they did respond reasonably well in English when asked specific questions. However they did not provide great direction on the WIFI that they charged for as they did not advise how to logout so the time did not run out.
