The St George Hotel

Durham Tees Valley Airport, Darlington - Map
"Great hotel, fantastic staff..."
This was my first visit to St Georges and i thought it was fantastic, especially for the price. Not an contemporary modern hotel but as it was a US army barracks from the 2nd World War it had a ton of character, and i loved the old photos in the bar area. I stay away a lot with business and as opposed to the fake niceness of many hotels, the staff seemed genuinely happy to help, even with me being quite particular. Comfy beds, decent food and a good nights sleep were boxes all ticked. I'll go back next time i'm down..

"Brill Hotel to stay"
My husband and I are both profoundly deaf and the staff at this hotel did everything to make us very welcome and nothing was a bother to them for anything we asked plus ringing for a taxi to Beamish where we attended our friend's wedding.. When we arrived on 6/10/12 we were welcomed by hens running around in the courtyard which was a lovely sight to see and also there was a stable where horses were kept which you could hire to ride. Our room was no 15 a lovely double standard room overlooking the countryside with a bath & shower. We had a meal in the restaurant which was excellent and the staff very friendly. There is a coffee shop which we didn't use and they even have Archery, Air Rifle Shooting and Clay Pigeon Shooting.. Next morning we had breakfast which was fab and you could choose anything from orange juice.cereals, fruit, to full English breakfast, the only thing the room could have been a bit warmer as it was a cold morning. Overall a fabulous hotel to stay and we would go back any time and a credit to all staff there.

Lumley Castle Hotel

Ropery Lane, Chester-le-Street - Map
"Absolutely fabulous hotel"
This old castle is extremely well preserved. Make sure you stay in the castle and not the out rooms. The rooms remind you if you we're a royal guest about 200 years ago. The exception being modern restrooms in the rooms. The rooms have antique furniture with wonderful curtains, wallpaper, woodwork and a royal bed with canopy and curtains. If you like modern rooms with modern furniture, this is not for you. The service, especially in the the restaurant and the library bar, is very good. I highly recommend if you enjoy history and old world style.

"The Best! I have run out of superlatives"
We picked this place because of the trip advisor ratings so our expectations were high, but it still managed to exceed them. Gorgeous location, fab room, so clean and sparkly, lovely little touches, the smellies were lush, the tea and coffee nice ones, bedding clean and very soft, bed very comfortable. Service quick and very good, food delicious, breakfast superb. I couldn't fault a thing. I loved the book explaining how everything works very amusingly written, answered all our questions. We took our dog and we were welcomed and could eat in the bar with him if we chose. We will be going again and recommending to friends and family. It isn't the cheapest but worth the little extra.
