I loved the way the hotel is like stepping back in time..wonderful. Didn't like the fact that some guests were not entitled to a coffee maker, even the most basic motels at least provide a coffee maker. As a paying guest I found it quite derogatory.

Thank you for your review. Unfortunately a coffee maker in each room puts undo stress on the electrical system of this old building. We are continually upgrading our systems and hope to be able to have that amenity in the near future. Please give us another try on your next trip to Durango.

LIKE: Hotel started in late 1800s. Period atmosphere was an educational change compared to modern "hotels". Yet, Strater was up to date in all aspects required to make stay comfortable and thoroughly enjoyable. Shower and bath facilities were especially nice. Location convenient to just about any kind of tourist/ history/ experience, including occasional steam whistle signals (not during sleeping hours) from Steam Locomotive for D&RGW narrow gauge excursion trains to Silverton, Colo. The whole experience gave credence to Durango's historic role as a gateway to one of Colorado's richest historic mining districts dating from late 1800s. DISLIKE: Nothing. Would definitely stay at Strater in Durango, CO again.

Great historical hotel! This hotel is in the perfect location to be able to walk around downtown Durango. It’s by all the shopping and dining. We didn’t realize this hotel is one of America’s top 10 most “haunted” hotels. We didn’t experience anything paranormal, but thought that was a fun fact. Staff is incredibly friendly.

We are sorry there was no hot water for your stay. Maintenance did their best to get the boiler back on line as soon as possible, unfortunately it was not in time for your stay. Please give us another try.

We loved the historic nature of the property. It looked like everything had been revamped recent because everything was in working order. We also really enjoyed the music in the Saloon. The musician (white beard and hair, sense of humor) was very good, and the music choice was good.

The Statler is a beautiful hotel that provides a glimpse of the late 19th century complete with whistles from the Durango & Silverton stem engines.

This hotel is exceptional. The decor, the furniture, the service are all outstanding. It’s like taking a trip back in time and not in the way you might describe some of the other hotels we have stayed in, if you know what I mean. I don’t normally leave reviews but I cannot praise this hotel highly enough. We are only here one night, but we will be back for a longer stay in the future.

Was quite a treat to stay at this authentic/historic hotel. Everything from the accents to the furnishings sends you back in time. Three separate dining options on the property, all with a different vibe. Staff were awesome, kind, and helpful! We took the train one of two days, and it's a quick 5 minute walk to the station from the hotel. I highly recommend riding the train if you haven't!

The hotel was a bit rundown, but the front desk staff was friendly and helpful. She even helped to get us water when the waitress was nowhere to be found in the restaurant. Husband and I enjoyed the live entertainment that they had in the evening.

This is a hotel with a great deal of character. The staff are great, the rooms ooze charm and the bars with food, drink and live music are to die for. Many original features have been retained so that staying here is a real experience.
