"Best River Walk Hotel, hands down."
Great hotel with a bed and breakfast feel right on the river walk. The Alamo is literally right around the corner. Every thing is walking distance; free cookies/lemonade/wine during the afternoons. Very friendly staff who were quick to make local suggestions. Rooms were very nice; AC worked GREAT (important if you are visiting San Antonio with a 7 month pregnant wife!)! We will definitely be making this our hotel of choice when we come back to San Antonio.

"Very nice, with lots of character"
We spent 2 nights at La Mansion. The old Spanish style and feel of the hotel is perfect for a stay in San Antonio. Our room was very nice, and the staff was very attentive. We were on the 3rd floor and had 2 balconies, one overlooking the courtyard, and one overlooking a busy street. With lots of buses going by, there was some noticeable street noise, but the room had a 'sound spa' and we had no trouble sleeping. The hotel itself was very quiet. The A/C in our room leaked the first night and got the carpet wet, but they laid down some towels and called a maintenance person the next day and he fixed it while we were out sightseeing. The pool is a saltwater pool, and is fairly small. As it was very hot, while we were there, everyone wanted to cool off, so the pool got crowded in the afternoon. We had our young son with us. So, we didn't eat in the hotel restaurant, as it looked very nice and quiet. It didn't seem appropriate for a talkative 10 year old. This hotel is near practically anything you will want to do in downtown San Antonio. It's on the best section of the River Walk, with plenty of restaurants and bars near by. The Alamo and other entertainment choices, like the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum, are just a short walk away. All-in-all, we had a great experience and plan on going back around Christmas.

"Historical hotel next to the Alamo"
I booked the Menger Hotel through Expedia with my flight. The hotel was even more beautiful than I expected. It was so historical as well. To think that I was sitting where Teddy Roosevelt had organized his Rough Riders was just amazing. My flights were delayed both ways but the stay at this hotel made up for those inconveniences. The Menger Hotel was in a perfect location for walking and sightseeing. It was near everything! I will stay there again for sure!

Pocket Guide: Downtown - Riverwalk, San Antonio Historic Hotels

The languid San Antonio River and its famed River Walk connect many downtown attractions, including the Alamo Plaza and HemisFair Park. Built for the 1968 World’s Fair, HemisFair Park is the site of the 750-foot Tower of the Americas. Visitors, though, won’t forget the Alamo, site of the legendary 1836 battle between Mexican soldiers and Texan secessionists. Nearby, Mexican goods fill El Mercado.
