“Fantastic stay”
I booked this hotel the day before arrival and it was exceptional value paying just uder £40pp. The hotel is welcoming and the staff are very friendly. Our room was clean and tidy, the only thing i would say is the beds are a little hard, breakfast is second to none with a huge choice of continental and english buffet. The Cumberlland is right on the front and yet only a 5 minute walk from the lively town centre. Book this hotel if you get chance, you wont regret it
“Wonderful Hotel. Cannot wait to go back.”
Food was excellent in both restaurants. Staff were helpful and courteous. We upgraded to a sea view room which was nice, Very spacious. Excellent mid week break and we would recommend this hotel.
“Happy (very mature) Cumberlanders”
We found the Cumberland a most enjoyable hotel in which to spend a couple of nights. The room was pleasant and the bed large and comfortable. There were only two things wrong - no toiletries supplied and no balcony (both these were stated in Expedia's room description as being included). However apart from that we could not fault the hotel in any way. The staff were excellent - always courteous and helpful. The food in the Ventana Brasserie was excellent, helped of course by the inclusion of a complimentary bottle of wine. The buffet breakfast was also very good with plenty of choice. The Art Deco style running throughout the hotel was most acceptable. On the whole they do seem to have got it right!
“Well, not quite Art Deco”
They try to be but they are not really there. The staff in the bar and restaurant need to get their programs straight...in 1 you need to present your room key, in another you need to present this silly little piece of paper saying you are a hotel guest. I had to explain basic drinks to them (bourbon and ginger ale)..the rooms are fine...small but comfortable..the towels are thin and they put out few. The food was okay...far from great.
“if you like art deco you will enjoy this hotel”
The staff were helpful and friendly. The actual hotel itself was clean and tidy and very attractive to look at. The Christmas decorations were very good. The breakfast was great. when I wanted room service there was some confusion about what was available and what wasn't. My room was tidy but dirty in places. Leak in the bathroom. Some dirty linen. After all that I would go back as I understand that all the rooms are being refurbished. I thought the price of my stay was very reasonable.
“Relaxing trip”
Lovely hotel, decor, ambience and staff but make sure you stay in the seafront rooms as the others, or at least the one we stayed in, are a bit tired. It was very cheap though.
“3 day Leisure Break in June 2008”
Booked this hotel for my parents for their wedding anniversary. The hotel was very good and on arrival they where given a free upgrade to a seaview room on the 4th floor. Overall their stay was very good. The communal areas and restauarant were excellent as was the food. The only downside was that the room could have done with a coat of paint and the ceiling leaked when it rained heavy.
“Well worth a visit”
A nice hotel within a easy distance to the centre. No need to go by car. Good bus connections for those that do not enjoy a walk.
“Would not go back.....”
Upon arrival it is as though you are on the set of Poirot... and are waiting for David Suchet to wander round the corner. Unfortunately it is even more like a film set when you discover the walls of the hotel are paper thin, and at night you are woken up listening to people return to their rooms, and again early morning when people begin to go to breakfast. Not somewhere to stay if you want to relax. Location, great. Appearance, great. But overall a real disappointment and not worth the money when there are so many other hotels locally.
“Would definately return”
The Hotel was fine and very Stylish - Loved the art deco. Pool area was great but a little crowded with some from outside the Hotel - Parking a bit restricted but with the facility to park at the Suncliff we managed Breakfest was excellent and dinner Ok at the special rate for residents.
