“Devonian delights”
I loved my stay. I felt like I had stepped back in time to an age of elegance. The room was lovely, just how I would like my own house to be. The decor, the service and the quality of food and drink was excellent. I couldn't fault the hotel at all. Staff in general and at the spa were friendly and helpful. As I was leaving there was a military wedding taking place, so I got to go out on the red carpet. It was all very magical, The good weather also helped.
“Hotel a little faded but a very pleasant stay”
We were very fortunate to receive an upgrade to a corner suite and it was lovely to have a four poster room plus lounge and fabulous views over the sea on two sides. Access to the balconies was closed 'for maintenance' and if the weather had been better that would have been very disappointing, though it wasn't an issue this time. The restaurant was excellent with very friendly staff and lovely food. My only beef (and I think it's just me) there were enough lights in every public room to land aircraft - which spoilt the ambience and was particularly annoying as it prevented any appreciation of the lovely bay views at night! If hotels ever wondered how to save some running costs they could start with their hundreds of quite unnecessary spotlights! The hotel is a little faded- particularly the exterior, but I'd go there again. We used the tennis court which could do with a good sweep and the leisure facilities looked fine though we didn't get round to that.
“torquay imperial”
The room although a standard was quite big, clean and comfortable. The rest of the hotel felt a bit dated and tired. What really was disappointing was the bar area which felt like the lobby area of a hotel not a nice place to relax and enjoy a drink or two.
“The Dark Room”
The Hotel was clean and tidy. The staff were friendly. The room was dark and unfriendly. There was no view, the outlook was straight onto another wall, making the room very dark. The air conditioning system was close to the room and was continuously noisy. The toilet seat was loose.
