Cockington’s Lanscombe House has been our home for 8 years now and during
that time we have completely refurbished the property and transformed it into
the kind of place that we have enjoyed staying at over the years. It is tucked away
in a quiet spot amongst the famous thatches of Cockington Village that nestles
at the heart of Cockington Country Park in beautiful South Devon and not far from
Torquay. Our emphasis has been on retaining the original Country House ambiance
with individually decorated rooms, period & reproduction furniture complemented by
quality ensuites. We are just a short level stroll through the Park to the sea and
central to Torbay - an enviable oasis of peace and tranquility on the English Riviera.
The listed former Dowagers House to the Cockington Court estate was
converted to a hotel many years ago and is now tastefully refurbished in period style
to provide eight individual en-suite bedrooms with baths or showers, sunny & spacious
breakfast room, elegant guest lounge with seasonal log fires, cosy bar, peaceful
Victorian walled gardens and ample parking.
The 450 acres of Cockington Country Park (a former private estate) and its preserved
thatched village are situated well away from the hustle and bustle but within
easy reach of central Torquay—either a level 30 minute walk or a few minutes by car;
the village also has its own minibus service to/from Torquay. Our house lies just
moments from the beautiful south Devon Coastline, on the edge of the unspoilt South
Hams district and close to Dartmoor. The Park allows you free access to enjoy the
miles of nature walks, browse the craft studios, take a relaxing ride on a horse drawn
Victorian carriage or indulge in a sumptuous Devon cream tea in a choice of Tearooms.
In the evenings there is the Lutyens designed thatched tavern, the Drum Inn, while
further a field enjoy truly excellent food South Devon has to offer from our personal
recommendations: great pub food, sea food bistros or even three Michelin Star
restaurants right on our doorstep. Lanscombe House the perfect base to explore South
Devon and the South Hams area, from the numerous tourist attractions to the unspoilt
coastline, countryside and the wilds of Dartmoor.
